Status: offline 		I noticed in the ship/family folders a lot more ships, ie. the names above etc. What ships are these and are they used in the game or do we just stick to the normal names when making new ships eg. cruiser, destroyer.....
Does anyone know?

Status: offline 		I get the impression they are spares for when you change a ship image in the ingame ship designer.
I have no proof of this though and its only a hunch.

So If you are right madpainter, the only images that are used in the game are: capitalship, colonyship, constructionship, cruiser, destroyer, escort, explorationship, frigate, gasminingship, largefreighter, mediumfreighter, miningship, passengership, resupplyship, smallfreighter, trooptransport.

Well put it this way....
I have shipsets that don't contain any of the "extra" ships and I've yet to see an ugly duckling appear.

Status: offline 		not left overs, they are what Pirate ships utilize :D look closely at some of the ships when your fighting pirates they use the extras folder images as well as the MIL images...your private ai uses the EXLPORER2 sometimes, I've seen some roaming around in my empire from the image set i use :D otherwise cant tell you what they are -why- they are :D

Status: offline 		Drillerman, my guess is that elliot is giving 100% of his time to all the tweaking in the patches at the moment. I've sent a post regarding something that also requires some dev input but it hasn't come yet...I can tell it's hectic times at the mo on the other end. I'm sure you'll get your answer soon!

Sorry about the very delayed response drillerman As you've probably noticed most of my time is sucked up in the Tech Support forum atm.

These ship images are just spares that we included in the game. You can rename them to proper ship roles if you want to use any of them in a mod, etc. Otherwise they are not actually used in the vanilla game itself. Their current filenames have no special meaning.

Pirates, debris fields, and other unusual ships make use of the images in the images\units\ships\other\ folder.

Yeah, no problem. I assumed you were hard at work sort the patching out. Thanks for the reply, I didn't think they were being used.
I did notice that the pirates and minors races seem to use the same designs as the player a lot of the time. This does make things slightly confusing sometimes.
