One must say that it appears the AI miscalculated - in this case, badly. Was this after repeated attacks?

Yes this is about the 10th attack on Rangoon, it has been reinforced by both sides continually for about 6 weeks now and the battle still rages.

Did the AI bring in the reinforcments from Singapore ? Because Normally he moves the units up north after he takes out Singapore. Thats another 3-4 Divisions Plus 1 Armoured Division.

Never understood this if you arn't pulling our leg.  IJ has no modifiers but goes from 1215 AV to 0?

che200: The AI may have, but I am not sure, I don't have many assets around the area to find out. It's late April 1942, so it would have had time to do that.

Zace: Heh, no I'm not pulling your leg, it's real. I don't get it either.

I had level 4 forts but they have been reduced to 3 by a previous attack. The engineers regiments are busy rebuilding them.
Forgot to mention, I have been bombing the AI in the hex with about 50-60 Blenheims for about 2 weeks now flying at 8,000ft, usually with average results, around 50 - 100 casualties per attack.

It all depends of script. Sometimes you are the bug, sometimes the windshield...

Andy Mac is evil man and his scripts still give me fits sometimes. Especially when I think I have a base secured.

I'm still trying to figure out where the AI has gone in my CG.  Cox's Bazaar was undefended when I moved in, Rangoon is sparsely held, Rabaul has a garrison only, and the northern shore of NG still has Allied bases (3/43).  CentPac is well defended, as is Timor and Java, and the AI is sending hundreds of Bettys to bomb some poor Chinese units, but that's about it.  Oh, and the IJN is a pre-carrier navy again; every CV Japan started the war with is now a reef somewhere.

They're about 46 miles from the US East Coast base ....

I don't know what is going on in your game.  In mine Scen 8 Allied vs AI there are a quarter of a million just outside Akyab, and another 250,000 give or take in Mandalay.  Different algorithims, maybe?

I've got a similar thing going on in China w/ the AI. It's basically a war of attrition that the AI will win eventually as I can't get supply to my troops in that area but I can at least bleed him some before then.

Has anyone counter-attacked after one of these battles?  And if so, what were the results?

I setup a pretty nice defense on rangoon and on the first attack the AI had the Tank division sitting out the attack and I managed 22,000 japanese casualities on the first shock attack where only 4,000 for me, I shock attacked myself and booted them out of rangoon. The Tank division entered the next turn and with the remaining of the first division attack - caused 10k in casualities to me, i had pretty much no anti armor capabilities so I can understand this, however its 30,000 japanese dead which is less for me to worry about when I go back on the offense, I do believe 10k were shifted to akyab later on via ships however I overwhelmed the landing with 2 carriers, a CVL and aircraft, so far I only see 10k of troops at Akyab, where my AVG is now on the chinese base 100 miles east of Mandalay causing havoc to the Sally bombers coming overhead. Sadly I'd like to keep the AVG however being in such an isolated area only way I can keep her up is using transport aircraft.
