What is it good for? How do you use it? Do you use it at all? And if, to what effect?

if you see that an individual pilot in a group has extremely high fatigue, its good to send him for a 'rest'.

But why 180 days? You could add him to the groups reserve pool.
Will the pilot return to the same unit or become available in the pool?

It is to save your top aces from dying in combat, for example. Although sending them to Training Command instead would be more useful, I think.

I really see no reason for it. I would just put them in group or general reserve. Unless there is some other benefit that I am unaware of.

not sure if there are any other uses; you could probably use it to 'save' a pilot from becoming a pow in base that was going to be overrun i guess.

Maybe the 180 day leave is to let them get some R&R? ;>
