Little Timmy Simo in Kansas in 1929: Mommy, I want to be a P-26 pilot when I grow up.

Mrs Simo: Like Hell you are! I'd sooner you went to mime school. If you must be a pilot, I want you to be a P-39 pilot. It's safer.

Hey, Cap'n-have you guys thought about 'buying' the airgroups that sank with some of your carriers in earlier action? They should be available by now and may be useful LBA USNAF adjuncts to your efforts. Just a thought.

Col. Wilson, commanding: Bob, what do you think about this Simo kid? Is he retarded or something?

Maj. Robert Vaught, double ace: Nah, he's alright. His hearts' just not in it. he wanted to be a P-26 driver.

Pretend we didn't read the manual. How do you do that? Also, will they take lay-away?

No layaway. Cash PP now! You pay now!

You access the list of destroyed air groups as an undermenu toggle under 'group reinforcement schedule', IIRC (at work, no game to double check). Once you select the undermenu button ('destroyed air groups') it will bring up a list of destroyed air groups, their cost in PP and time to return to your OOB.

As one might expect..we do have a few..USN groups. What we dont have is F4F's or many SBD's. We have lots of TBF's.

Ditto the USAAF groups. No replacement aircraft.

Air groups take about a year to appear after you buy them back. Buy them now and you will have some kind of aircraft for them when they arrive.

Can the F4F units be upgraded to F4U, F6F or FM-2? In about three months, you guys'll be inundated with F6F replacements and then you WILL have beaucoup F4Fs in your replacement pools.

Of course, this is all academic at this point. This war will be over within the next year.

I did not know it took that long! .. "No layaway. Cash PP now! You pay now! You pay for prane groups today .. I give you prane groups next year!" This sounds like M&M Enterprises had something to do with this ...

Yes. If you note the date they were destroyed, the Arries COULD be bringing some of them back right about now, had they bought them out a year ago (when they were destroyed). I'm not saying that's Arried oversight though...

*********War of the Pacific, March 27, 1879, Valaparaiso, Chile***********

Zemeriah M. Minderbinder, in a fine silk shirt: Look, Mr. Foreign Minister, Chile could solve its foreign currency crisis just by taking back the nitrate mines from the crazy sons of bitches, the Bolivians. All you need to do is send the Armada up there and blockade the place.

Alejandro Fierro, Chilean Foreign Minsiter: My dear senor Minderbinder, there is the small matter of the Marina de Guerra del Peru. As you know, they are allied with the crazy sons of bitches, the Bolivians. Their broadside ironclad Independencia is quite a threat.

Zemeriah M. Minderbinder, in a fine silk shirt: Phht, Independencia! Her armor is really flattened anchovy tins. Blanco Encaldo will tear her to shreds.

Alejandro Fierro, Chilean Foreign Minsiter: <chuckles> Young man, our admirals do not share your confidence. How is it you know so much about Independencia?

Zemeriah M. Minderbinder, in a fine silk shirt: I sold her to them.

Wow, the rare naval knowledge displayed on this thread.

Not often on a WW2 site will see posts about ironclad warships.

******************March 27, 2013, La Paz, Bolivia****************

M. Minderbinder IV, in fine Savile Row suit: Look Mr. President, it was a crime really. How was your side supposed to know the Peruvian naval armor was really flattened anchovy cans? What I propose is that we take the Bolivian case to the International Court in the Hague. It is not fair that Bolivia is landlocked.

President Morales: But it was 134 years ago? And where is this Hague place?

M. Minderbinder IV, in fine Savile Row suit: That's why we have Dewey, Cheatham and Howe, Mr. President. Let us take care of that.

President Morales: What will you desire in return?

M. Minderbinder IV, in fine Savile Row suit: 50% natural gas pipeline royalties, should we prevail, of course. We sell the gas to the Japs.

I suggested it at the time. I think you and Sprior wanted to, but Churchill objected. Yeah, that's the ticket...

Actually Cochrane is the personality upon whom Jack Aubrey is built.

O'Brian was a bit of a fantasist and not a very nice bloke the books are gems of language and wit.

Why is it called a dog watch?

Because it's cur-tailed.

A corker

The management reserves the right to be infallible. Has anyone else invaded the Philippines and Burma in March 1943? I think not.

I think the emphasis is on the Philippines and scenario #2, while also invading Burma, which I admit is quite remarkable against competent opponents. As far as Burma in its own context .. CR right now has Ramree Island in 1942

Impressive. There are very few ships that can take 3 TTs and remain afloat.

No doubt about it. Hermes can take more punishment than the USN CVE's which are floating gas tanks. Even with 3 "up the chuff" she can make 11 kts.

I think that is even FASTER than her speed before battle. Evidently the water flows in one hole and out the other, therby reducing drag.
