We have a new Beta Patch v1.02 for Members to try. It is available in the Members Club, and, if all goes well, we will make it official next week. You will need to register your game, if you have not already. Then click on Registered Downloads on the right-hand side of the screen. Please try it over the weekend and give us your feedback.

Change History:

v1.02 – Dec. 9, 2009

    Performance Fix

  • Created new drawing method for target and aircraft highlights, now a bazillion times faster.

    Changes

  • Stopped Random Seed from being the same every time the game is executed
  • Added tag to prevent at-start pilots from being overwritten if they are killed with no kills to their name
  • Set raids hidden by Jammers to random estimated altitude, rather than 0
  • Reworked the Critical Hit system to lower the CH chance and damamge for smaller calibre weapons, but increase damage for larger calibre weapons.
  • Lowered the chance of mis-claims in the raid report
  • Changed production needs display to count only sites with less than 50% damage, and estimated output for those with some damage
  • Lowered crash chance for damaged level bombers
  • Added morale and Fatigue checks to AI interceptions. Units with low readiness, low morale or high fatigue may refuse to fly.
  • Increased maintenance times based on time in air.

    Fixes

  • Factories on delay now do not produce
  • Campaign Summary, Weapons Database and Continuous Play (AI v AI games only buttons being difficult to click)
  • Fixed Time over Target display not updating correctly.
  • Fixed issue with Ta152c and Fw190A8 factory upgrades being free in some situations
  • Lowered "Extra Recon" message to level 3
  • Fixed issue that stopped some interceptors from climbing, causing mass casualties at night
  • Fixed issue where some following flights did not register passing a waypoint, causing turnbacks

v1.01 – Oct. 19, 2009

    Code fixes

  • Added Dual/Quad Global Core Performance Options
  • Waiting Cursor in new games fixed.
  • Added a set mouse-cursor function after editing game comments. This should correct the issue of losing the cursor when hitting enter.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some ground forces from being created.
  • Fixed the non-responsive buttons in playback.
  • Fixed Raids hanging in late game.
  • Added production stockpile to the "Production Requirements" screen.
  • Added code to top the "review mission" scrollbar in react phase, or focus on mission if one is selected.
  • Stopped not-yet-in-production airframes from affecting the requirements. This only applies to post-dated factories, not to production lines changing over.
  • Increased research requirements - now operates on a scale from 100 per month if the Aircraft is close to production up to over 800 for very late models in the early game. Basically, the reward for effort is greator the closer you are to production.
  • Stopped the "top Pilots" list from being insanely large - limited to 500.

    AI Changes

  • Stopped AI from upgrading FACs on human control.
  • Changed the way the AI finds new Aircraft to upgrade to - it now does NOT skip a generation if there are sufficient Aircraft, it does skip a generation if the first order upgrade is either used once that turn, or has insufficient aircraft. It then tries all Aircraft in the upgrade path, not just the first and second order upgrades. This is to stop the AI from stockpiling late Aircraft while some units were still flying at-start Aircraft.
  • Completely rebuilt AI production system. The AI is now more attentive to what's in use, what's in stock and what's in deficit. The AI will now ensure that production in old types continues till there's enough spares to support the existing units, though it does convert a limited number of Facs to get the critical mass. It also makes smart decisions on Parts and Engines, to ensure that there are stocks, and appropriate amounts being built. It will take production away from anything with a huge pool to something that is lacking. It is no longer constrained by brand (not that it really ever was). Finally, it will convert excess production in type to research, AND will convert unneeded production (Like Macchi FACS not in use after the Italian Surrender) to other more needed types.

    Graphics

  • Reversed the font load order to ensure the default font was the "normal" weight. You'd see the light font after an alt-tab redraw.
  • Fixed a bug preventing flight/intercept lines from showing up.
  • Fixed the tops and roundels when swapping between BOB and BTR.
  • Fixed a hanging scrollbar in reaction phase - review raids.
  • Added buttons to choose your scroll speed .
  • Added buttons to choose your max game time per RL second. This is the MAX, not a constant speed setting.
  • Added code to re-draw after alt-tab.
  • Fixed sorting top pilots by mission.
  • Fixed side images of RAF Aircraft.

<edit - harley> fixed the new highlight description

By changing scroll speed in options menu during a turn, the mini-map disappeared. Had to restart the game, in order to get it back.

most of what the Exe does, will not need a restart

to use the OOB, it will need a new start

I would think most of the Art will work with out a new start

I could not tell you how many times I have changed the scroll settings and this hasn't happend.

At what point in the game did you change it?

# Added tag to prevent at-start pilots from being overwritten if they are killed with no kills to their name

Yes, the tag is set at game initialisation

# Fixed issue with Ta152c and Fw190A8 factory upgrades being free in some situations

Only if you or your opponent have taken advantage of the exploit and want to start on a fair footing.

All the others, no, but try to make sure you replace the exec between turns, not in the middle of a reaction phase. It won't break, but some of the fixes happen when a unit takes off, or a raid is created on the map. If they are already flying it won't get the new settings.

harley, the game runs now really faster and smoother and the map scrolling (with night turned on) is superb.
Thank you!

Started a new Eagle Day campaign, changed scroll speed from default to fast and after that the mini-map got not redrawed but showed a black squadre. Anyway, this bug was not replicable when I restarted EDBTR, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Thank you for the historical correct artwork btw. and since we're talking graphics I have another request. Would it be possible to add city-names to the map with the final 1.02 release?

for the request, that is out of our area of skill, maybe one of the better modders can do some work with the map

I know there is some issue with the mini map when the different data is loaded (Ie if you go from BoB40 and then start up a BoB41 or BTR game, the mini map will be black, have never seen it with the option changes ?)

I try new patch with DirectDraw software emulation OFF, highlight target and highlight airfield ON - map scrolling is faster, but if turn night ON map scrolling is slow.
If I try DD software emulation ON, processor affinity all, night ON, highlight target and highlight airfield ON map scrolling is really faster and without graphical glitches!!
Thank you for your excellent work Harley and Hard Sarge!!

H&HS;

Patch seems to be working.
I can't reproduce the earlier reported mini-map problem.
I still have a my machine specific problem with map scrolling and Night=ON. But, I've had a work-around since day one.
I'll snoop the OOB's during this upcoming week.

BTW: I had a minor glitch right after updating. Every EDBtR startup kept asking for something in drive D:?
I'd just click cancel and move on.

After I did my usual system reboot, I've not seen D: problem again.

TS

Sorry, as a re-read this... that was pretty bad.
It's true, but still bad!

I installed the 1.02 beta patch to the original (1.0?) version and noticed a small bug there. The Move Patrol option now offers the possibility to choose the enemy raid in addition of your patrolling unit if enemy units are close to the friendly unit. Not a major bug, but irritating nonetheless since it forces you to make additional UI actions.

Previously similar window came up only when two or more friendly units were close to each other, but now it seems that the code does not separate friendly or enemy units from each other. The previous system is good, but it would be even better if the area selaction could be used to move several units with one command. Just like the "Recall" option works now.

I would also suggest adding a "Recall to Patrol" etc. option in addition to the current "Recall" option. Now the units on intercept orders can only be changed to patrol quite tediously by going to List Raids -> List Intercepts (or something similar, cannot remember now the exact wording there) -> selecting the intercepting units back to patrol status -> exit window at least once, possibly twice. Even just a keyboard shortcut for this would help greatly as I use them for every other functionality (I - intercept, P - patrol, M - move patrol, R - recall).

I'm afraid I've seen the issue where some following flights did not register passing a waypoint, causing turnbacks. I had 200 B17s turn back from the coast to the Ruhr.

Like TechSgt I have problems scrolling with night turned on and can't use the Software Emulation mode because of graphic glitches, but I just turn off night and its fine.

However, over all the improvements are good and working well, particularly the damage system. Keep up the good work.

I also keep seeing really strange enemy (allied) bomber behaviour on their return leg. The bombers fly in, bomb the target, head back to base in UK, but once they get over the English Channel they turn back without their escorts and make a "sight seeing" flight over France. It is really weird and it happens basically every game day at least once.

This behaviour was also in the original (1.0?) version.

just to be clear, you are seeing this from the Axis side and not from the Allied side ? (well, Def side and not the Off side ?)

Yes playing LW I got that before the patch in Italy as well. Mosquitos, Liberators, you name it, turning back for an extra look.

<sigh>

We delayed the patch to investigate this, but couldn't find anything. Still nbg...

I am "investigating a promising line of inquiry" at present.

I always really hate tracking down this sort of issue/bug. Good luck.

I'm playing the BTR full campaign (700 turns, 1943) as the axis. The allies are controlled by the AI.

I have only seen the behaviour from the bombers based in UK. If I recall correctly it has always been B-17s, which are coming back for some extra sight seeing. It seems to happen every day in my game.

roger thank you

odd it is showing up in a Defender game and not in a attacker game

that narrows it down some

really, we have killed this 5 times, and it keeps showing up again later, in a different form (we had one bug in the Med that was 7 layers deep, this one may be deeper)
