As defined by standard VVS doctrine, all bomber aircraft are to begin their designated runs at a maximum altitude of 1000ft (300m).

Classification: Short-Range Escort Fighter

Strengths:

- Adequate operational radius
- robust construction with self-sealing fuel tanks

Weaknesses:

- weak armament
- poor maneuverability
- low top speed


Operational Doctrine: Escort bomber formations to short-medium range targets. The Su-2 has been pressed into service as an escort until larger numbers of Mig-3 Aircraft can be assembled.

Tactical Doctrine: Use height and numbers to your advantage. You are able to out-maneuver the BF-110 and some protection can be offered by the rear gunner. Flying the Su-2 is a Wirraway (challenge)

- low top speed
- poor maneuverability

Operational Doctrine: Deployed against enemy mechanized and troop concentrations. Can be utilized as defensive fighter.

Tactical Doctrine:

Repeated glide-bombing and strafing runs against ground targets.
Decreased accuracy is compensated for by reduced operational losses. Bombers can be destroyed with heavy cannon fire from moderate range. Contact with enemy fighters should be avoided.

Total Inventory: 249

Expected Use:

Longest range of any axis fighter. May be used in concert with Luftwaffe bombers deep into soviet territory


Suggested Tactics:

Slashing attacks will prove effective. Aircraft is short but with a large radial fuselage. Pilot and fuel tanks are vulnerable. Do not overshoot as its firepower is significant.



Estimated Inventory: less than 100

Will be used in concert with other types above the skies of Finland and the Leningrad Front.
Will attempt to bypass fighter escorts and engage soviet bombers.


Suggested Tactics:

Slashing attacks will prove effective. Avoid head on passes.


Estimated Inventory: less than 100

Weaknesses:

- low top speed
- low rate of climb
- limited range

Expected Use:

Will be used in concert with other types above the skies of Finland and the Leningrad Front. Will engage both soviet fighter and bomber aircraft.


Suggested Tactics:

Aircraft is slower and less maneuverable than most soviet types.
Utilize your own aircraft's strengths to your advantage. Avoid head on passes.


Estimated Inventory: less than 100

Expected Use:

Will be used as a dogfighter in mixed formations of aircraft.
May be utilized as escort for short-range sorties of bomber aircraft in the Leningrad front.



Suggested Tactics:

Aircraft is similar in performance to the I-16 fighter. Utilize high speed slashing attacks. Head on passes with extended bursts will also be effective. Aircraft can be easily identified by fixed undercarriage. Avoid turning battles.


Estimated Inventory: less than 100

Defend Surface flotillas from attacks by destroyers and other light vessels. Provide support to larger vessels with torpedo strikes.



Tactical Doctrine:

Engage enemy destroyers at moderate range with low-medium caliber artillery. Equipped with 12 torpedo tubes, will prove effective against larger capital ships at close range.
