Well, maybe not but I guess that many here know wargaming and were to get the games so I thought I ask. This is the General discussion forums isn't it?

Yes it is King Karl. Forgive our over zealous General Discussion forum moderator.

AFAIK there is no way of receiving Digital Downloads of HPS games. I wish there were...I would own a few myself.

Russo-German War isn't an HPS game.

RGW is not available as a DL.

You can purchase that game from NWS. It is published by Schwerpunkt.

It is a GREAT game. Interface is rather odd, but other than that if you like operational wargames, it is not to be missed.

Check out threads at the Wargamer forum.

In particular, JMass's map mod is very much worth having a look at:

What resolution does this game run at? I have a 1650*1080 widescreen monitor.

Also, will it work on Vista/Windows 7?

I run it on XP at 1680*1050. Looks good. Widescreen.

So, I take it that the game will run in any resolution or does it stretch to fit the screen?

Sorry, not a clue. A while since I installed it, and I can find no "video options" menu to see the selections.

All I can tell you is I'm running it 1680*1050, widescreen, no stretching.

If you like simple, clear, boardgame graphics, it looks great.

If you want World In Conflict or better, it sucks.

I like it a lot. But then I like WITP graphics. And I just finished, and thoroughly enjoyed a game of Warship Combat: Navies At War, where the graphics are not, shall we say, cutting edge.

But maybe I enjoyed that not because of the graphics, but because I pounded the Bismarck and Tirpitz into a fleeing scrapyard, and drove off the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau with their tail between their legs with the KGV, Nelson, Hood, Norfolk and Suffolk. Gosh but gaming can be great!

I wonder why they chose not to depict the 1944+ years ?

Ron Dockal is the devleoper. He is a one man show. IIRC eventually Ron was going to cover the entire WWII European theatre after he finished his Middle East game.

The game map does take up the entire screen when you zoom in, and I find the map very nice IMHO for an operational game. The controls are odd and not intuitive, but they grow on you after awhile. The included tutorial for RGW is good. The manual is excellent. The AI is adequate at defense, and plenty good enough for me but that isn't saying too much.

I have no idea why he didn't cover 1944+, but he does respond to questions on the Wargamer forum from time to time, and is generally helpful and friendly.

There is a guy who is modding the Allied German War and doing WWI scnearios. I haven't played them, but they look nice.

The game deserves to be supported and it is an obvious labor of love by the developer.

The reason to do not include scenarios beyond Warsaw was the massive transfer from units located in the West front, that made difficult the task.

However, RGW has 51 scenarios, covering the most interesting battles and a grand campaing from Barbarrossa to Warsaw. Until now this is the best east front game that I've found despite its time. Additonal user made scenarios are available. My recomendation is Hitler moves to the East.

AGW covers the entire war in the West (Africa included). It´s newer, with a new engine. Also the last east front battles from Warsaw to Berlin are included in AGW, so it is possible to play the last scenarios with allied and soviet forces.

MDE, Middle East will cover several scenarios, from 1947 to 2006, including an Israeli campaing, Iraq-Iran war, Gulf War 91, Cobra II and Afghanistan. Hopefully it will be released anytime soon.

WWII-Europe will be the next game, combining both RGW(II?) and AGW, with a newer and easier game interface.
