How much supply do sustained operations in china cost. This regards the japanese side.
Operating the whole chinese expeditionary army on offensive operations must eat up a lot of supply. Does anyone have numbers?
Is the usage of supply worth the gain in china (economic and strategic)?

I have come to a number of 700k/month by very rude math - assuming all combat units will be in combat for whole month! So in reality it can be closer to 100k/month in normal use (no all out effort)...

My rough estimate tracking it in China in my current PBEM game is about 500K/month for all out effort, ~150K/month just normal ops and some occasional combat. We're almost in Sep 1942.

Full out ops in China will eat supplies - 500-700K/month is a lot considering Japan's total monthly production of supplies is something on the order of 800,000 to 850,000/month.

So going all out in China will cost you in other areas and/or expansion of your economy. Consider that to reach historical plane production numbers you will probably need to expand/repair about 3,000 a/c factories and 3,000 engine factories for a net of 6,000,000 supplies cost - aka about a year's worth of full combat operations in China. As Japan, you have some tough choices to make economically.

And since I was on the other end of the stick, I can assure you it was an all out effort!!!And, it was worth it as near as I can tell; and if I ever play the dark side, then I will focus on China due to the amount of points Don was able to accumulate with the devastation of the weak Chinese forces.

I'm did not calculate supply usage but am aggressive in China in my PBEM and I just started to have shortages late Jan 42 about 8 weeks into the campaign. You definatly need to ship supplies in, but how much I am not sure. Tracker alerted me to the situation initially with bases starting to have less then 2x supply cropping up all over china!

So ship it and ship it good!
