ORDERS for 12/21/41

In the PI I'm gradually pushing Jack to where he wants to go - Manila. So I'll box him up and lay siege while pounding him with LB

In Hawaii, I've moved fighters to Hilo having transported an engineer unit from Johnston with AVI support last turn. the Fighters are set for 90% CAP and will hopefully cause Jack to eithier concentrate their or split his primary attack ordes for his LB. TF30 is withdrawing to Johnston this turn...

In Malaya I'm pushing Jack to Singapore. It seems to be where he wants to go so if he's into a Sir Robin then I'll follow ASAP with Tank Rgts to nip at his heels. I've got LB at Kuching so I don't think he'll get many out by sea but... I haven't really damaged Singapore AF yet - I wanted Kota Bharu in my pocket before committing LB units to destroy the airfields there. Once I've got him bottled in Singapore I'll establish stronger air coverage and take out Palembang.

In China I'm still getting my garrisons straightened out while trying to push Carl's Chinese units out past the river. It looks like Jack has plans for Kaifeng and Hankow.

Production now seems stable and I'm implementing my fighter production program next turn.

There are a lot of TFs running fuel and supplies out to Kwajalein/Johnston. Plus additional troops and air units. I really-really want PH...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/20/41

I continue to pound Manila airfield w/100+ LB

I continue to pound Bataan w/200+ LB

Jack now has over 80 LB hit Lahaina - they are @ 18k

more small penny-packets of allied LB pepper Kota Bharu

TF30 finds the MSW Penguin and AO Robert L. Barnes @ 112,72 near Hawaii and sinks them. This was probably not a smart move on my part as Jack has been concentrating on Lahaina & I still don't have all of my Air Combat TF where I want them...

I sweep Singapore again for 1 allied fighter killed

This was that attack of PH from TF30:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Pearl Harbor [Oahu] , at 114,72

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zeke x 13
A6M2-N Rufe-FF x 2
B4Y1 Jean x 16

P-35A Hawk x 3

Allied ground losses:
6 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Runway hits 7

Aircraft Attacking:
6 x B4Y1 Jean bombing at 9000 feet
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I push two of the Chinese raider units out of their hexes. Usually this results in increases to leader values for my ground units so I call it good training - lol

Clark and Kota Bharu fall this turn

12/24/41 ORDERS

I-162 took damage last turn near Ceylon so I'm sending her to Saigon for repairs (11/0/0)

I-158 & I-156 are patrolling in the Arabian Sea. I dunno if Jack is runnning any shipping thru Aden but I'm gunna find out - lol.

I'm moving a few empty TFs back from Malaya for supplies/troops.

The push is going good so far - I've got troops just outside of Kuala Lumpur.

I've also caught Jacks LCU defenders from Kota Bharu @ 24,45 with my 14th Tank Rgt and the Imperial Guard Div. I want to keep Jack's units in a routed condition. I've got a little over 400AV plus some arty. I'll push a shock attack and see what happens.

In China Jack has pushed a INF unit of almost 500AV near Tatung. I have the 10th Ind Inf defending while the 27th Ind INF and the 1st Cav Group Bde march to aid the defense.

Air assets assigned to supress Chinese LCU near Tatung

More fuel/supply TFs to Kwajalein/Johnston/Wake area

Additional air units are now in the Marshall Islands/Hawiian area and recieve orders

Jack didn't hit Hilo this turn... Must be prepping his B-17s for Naval attacks... I wanna sweep PH but need to let my fighters rest a turn or two.

I'm refueling my carriers @ Johnston and will make another go of PH AF in a turn or two.

Hong Kong and Nagasaki are expanding port/AF/Base. Const LCU are in route to both bases.

So I'm still waiting on fuel to arrive @ Johnston so I can go after Hawaii again. Jack is hitting Hilo base as you can see in the AAR below. At this point Merchies are loading or transporting fuel/supplies/troops into the Pacific theatre or towards Malaya. In China I'm pushing back the small raider groups to establish a line of defense while trying to form enough units in southern China to push Jack's Chinese troops past the river. I have pulled many of my fighters and LB out of Manchueko to bomb/straff then Chinese. This area is serving as my pilot training program for now.

I've moved additional fighter units to Hilo this turn. I really wish I'd have done a better job of coordinating fuel/supply TFs along with TFs carring bomber units.

Although there does not seem to be a lot of action I'm still doing a fairly good job of pushing Jack to Manila and Singapore while in China I'm managing the garrison requirements and forming units in southern China for a push.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/26/41

Day Air attack on Hilo [Hawaii] , at 116,74
10 A6M2 Zeke of the Chitose Kktai, whie defending against 45 enemy fighters and 140 heavy bombers out of Pearl Harbor, lost one fighter in air combat while shooting down a P-40E Warhawk and 4 P-43A Lancers. Japan's Hilo base suffered light damage and very light casualties.

Day Air attack on ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment, at location 51,33
In combined air operations in China, three seperate gound attacks were scheduled against the ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment, at location 51,33. While light damage estimates have been reported, war commanders in the field believe there was a significant reduction in morale for the Chinese troops. Wing Commander Iotaka noted that the bombing campaign was a great way to provide additional training to the crews of his bomber unit.

Day Air attack on TF, near Kota Bharu [Malaya] at 24,45
Two enemy Blenheim from Singapore managed to slip through the clouds and evade Japanese fighters performing a CAP mission to damage the CL Ayatosan Maru with a single Bomb hit. The Ayatosan Maru received moderate damge from the attack.

Sub attack at 23,56
The Japanese sub SS RO-63 managed to locate and attack the enemy ship AK Anshun. Two torpedoes hit the AK and she was reported as on fire with heavy damage.

In defense of a Day Air attack on Hilo [Hawaii] , at 116,74 Japan fields 19 A6M2 Zekes against a gaggle of allied forces that include 46 assorted fighters and an assortment of 125 bombers (mostly heavies). Japanes forces lose six zekes in air combat with another 4 fighters receiving combat damage. Allied losses are 7 enemy fighters and 3 enemy bombers. The light bomber losses are attributed to the lack of ammo available to the Japanes Zekes after cuttting through the large fighter escort. Hilo base receives heavy damage to the runways and supply depots with moderate damage to the base itself.

Day Air attack on ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment, at location 51,33 - In combined air operations in China, two seperate gound attacks were scheduled against the ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment, at location 51,33. Light damage estimates have been reported.

In Manila Bay G4M1 Bettys strike the PG Cicala with bombs, scoring two hits. The PG is reported to be burning furiously.

The AK Sibolga, in a Day Air attack near Singkep [NEI] at 22,53 by six G4M1 Bettys, takes 5 torpedo hits and is reported as on fire and with heavy damage. The base commander later has the torpedo ammunition examined by ground crews while ordering all bomber pilots to have their eyes examined by the base medic. Surely any AK hit with 5 torpedoes would have sunk - right?

In another daring Day Air attack on an enemy TF near Bandjermasin [BNO] at 27,64, the TK Ven-Koh is reported to have been hit with one torpedo while it's escort, the MSW Whippoorwill was mortally struck with two torpedoes

In China at 50,38, local Japanese forces ran into unexpected resistance and were pushed back with losses reportedly at 4:1

After Chinese troops had been softened up by combined air attacks at 51,33, Japanese troops attacked a small gurilla unit and pushed them into a retreat.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/28/41

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF11(7DD 2APD 1PC)ASW investigates a reported sub sighting northwest of Kuching and locates and attacks the SS O16. Commander Iura, who flies his flag aboard the DD Hagikaze, the enemy sub as on fire with heavy damage, if not sunk outright.

SS O16, hits 6, on fire, heavy damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
100+ bombers consisting of Nells and Bettys flying out of Kota Bharu perfoem a Day Air attack on Singapore. Initial reports are light damage to the base and runways along with two Vildebeests destroyed on the ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
84 bombers flying out of Johnston Isle performed a Day Air attack on Pearl Harbor. In spite of running into a heavy CAP and flying without fighter support, Imperial Japanese bombers punched through the CAP and made their attack runs. Light damage was reported on the runways with moderate damage to the base itself. Japan lost 7 Nell and 14 Bettys while afteraction reports show 14 enemy fighters shot down and another 3 enemy aircraft destroyed on the ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A group of 25 SBD-3 Dauntless performed a Day Air attack on Japanese held Lahaina, Maui. Dispite no Japanese CAP the allies were only able to perform light damage against the base and runways.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A heavy bomber attack out of Pearl Harbor performed a Day Air attack on Hilo, Hawaii. Japan fielded 16 Zeke against an estimated 57 fighters flying escort for 166 bombers (of which a majority were B-17 Fortresses). Japanese fighter losses were heavy with 10 of the 16 Zekes shot down in defense of the base. Nine enemy fighters were shot down with another 7 allied bombers following them down in flames. Hilo base received heavy damage to their supplie depots, the base itself, and the runways.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The British continue to expend small packets of bombers against Japanese naval forces near Kota Bharu. So far the CAP over Kota Bharu is proving up to the task of defending our base and navy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF47(3CVL 4DD)AC move in north of Lihu and perform a Day Air attack on an enemy task force near Pearl Harbor, Oahu. Seventy-nine D3A2 Val and ninty-one B5N2 Kate fly unescorted (why? I think because I had my fighters set to escort to PH. I shoulda just had them set to general escort duties without being specific as to PH... Grrr) and do severe damage to the enemy TF. Reports indicate the following damage:

AK Horace Luckenbach, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
CL Prince Robert, Bomb hits 12, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AK Yukon, Torpedo hits 1
AK Malama, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
AK Strathcone Park, Bomb hits 1, on fire
PC Atalanta, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AK Don Isidro, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
SC Dawson

During the attack on the TF enemy fighters from Pearl Harbor arrived to drive away our Imperial aircraft. Almost 50 allied fighters shot down eight of our dive bombers and another sixteen torpedo planes before our forces could disengage from the enemy fighters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF47(3CVL 4DD)AC performs another Day Air attack on an enemy task force near Pearl Harbor, Oahu.Day Air attack on TF, near Pearl Harbor, Oahu. 13 DB and 24 TB (again unescorted) attack the ML Oglala and put two torpedoes into her flank. Enemy fighters from PH again intervein, shooting down 7 of our Kates before our air units can disengage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17 G4M1 Bettys out of Aparri perform a Day Air attack on a TF, near Manila, PH, and attack the PG Cicala, hitting her 7 times during bombing runs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japan's 18th Division, in Ground combat at Malacca, Malaya, wrested control of the base from British forces, forcing them to flee south towards Johore Bahru.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/30/41

TF110(1CL 1AK)Transport, carrying the Truk NGF Naval Guard Unit, encounters a sub-layed mine field at Hilo, Hawaii. The AK Kanaiyama Maru hits a mine causing severe damage. Her escort, the CL Saigon Maru tries to escort the stricken AK to the nearest safe base for repairs - Johnston Isle.

Later that day and out to sea, the TF is located and attacked by enemy dive bombers again. The CL Saigon Maru takes three large bombs into her underarmored decks that cause grievious damage to the ship's boilers and crew.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sallys and Lilys out of Takao, Formosa, perform another Day Air attack on Manila, PH, causing severe damage to the runways and supply depots along with moderate damage to the base itself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unable to put up a CAP due to damage on the runways and base from yesterday's attack, the allies perform another Day Air attack on Hilo, Hawaii, from Pearl Harbor. With a force roughly the same as that of the previous day, the bombers do moderate damage to the base and supply depots while continuing to hammer the already riddled runways into something resembling swiss cheese.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Imperial bombers out of Tsingtao fly a Daylight Air attack on ROC 51st Guerilla Regiment located sw of Kaifeng. It is estimated that the enemy unit received light casualties from the attack.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enemy aircraft from Pearl Harbor locate and attack TF47(3CVL 4DD)AC located north of Lihu. Although strongly defended by a large fighter CAP, enemy dive bombers slip through and score three 1000 lb. bombs on the CVL Chiyoda. Commander Harada refuse to transfer his flag but also has no choice but to run the remaining undamaged ships of TF47 west, away from the range of enemy aircraft while leaving behind the stricken Chiyoda and a single DD as her companion. Commander Harada, still aboard the CVL Chiyoda, has little hope that the Chiyoda will avoid the enemy aircraft and heavy sub presence in the area but he simply cannot leave the Chiyoda alone to face her fate without at least a destroyer escort along to rescue any survivors should the CVL be sunk or abandoned.

Later that day the allies again find the CLV Chiyoda and she is hit twice more from enemy dive bombers. Still afloat and with overtaxed repair crews fighting flooding, flames, and ammo fueled explosions, the badly damaged CVL continues to fight for survival and the safety of Johnston Isle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Near Batavia, Java, the RO-64 finds the AK Meroendoeng trying to make port and plants three torpedoes into her flank before surfacing to finish her off with a single well-placed shot from her 3in gun.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/31/41

I've seen quite a few TFs around/near Palembang so I sent TF11(7DD 2 APD 1PC) after changing it's mission from ASW to SC. In a night-time surface combat TF11 only catches a small defensive TF of 4 PT boats. TF11 sinks 3 of the four and then makes a run for Saigon. Unfortunately, TF 11 doesn't get out of range of Jack's TBs and DBs drom Singkawang and Singapore. Later that day TF11 get's attacked twice - the first attack resulting in the DD Arashi taking a torpedo from a Swordfish and the second resulting in APD Patrol Boat No. 36 taking a torpedo hit whil the DD Murakumo eats a bomb. TF11 splits the damaged ships into TF49.

I'm still chasing down enemy subs. I ran TF44(2DD)ASW over to a sub sighting and managed to get one hit on the SS KXV, which is also reported as being on fire.

I'm still hitting Singapore from Kota Bharu. For the first time in a while Jack actually had a small CAP over Singapore, but my Zeke escorts pushed those aside for my Bettys and Nells to go after the airfield. 3 base, 3 supply, and 15 runway hits - not too bad from 15k...

Jack came by Hilo again with another 100+ LB. I'm still not able to put a CAP up so He pummels my base - 5 base, 3 supply, and 68 on the runway. The bad thing about this is his bomber pilots are gaining experience...

The CVL Chiyoda still can't get out of range of PH by the 31st of Dec. The CVL takes 4 more bombs from an airstrike consisting of fighters plus 20 SBD-3 Dive Bombers. She sinks shortly after the attack.

South of Kona the CL Saigon Maru meets a similiar fate as she is spotted and attacked by a pair of dive bombers in the morning that score a single hit plus an additional attack in the afternoon in which she takes another 3 bombs from SBDs

What TF11 was unable to find during it's night-time attack at Batavia, Bettys out of Kuching are able to find in the daylight hours. 9 Bettys plus a Zeke escort locate the AK Benkalis @ hex 23,55 and plant 3 torpedoes into her.

Nearby, @ hex 22,54 4 more Bettys from Kuching find the AK Munlock and plant two torpedoes in her flank.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/01/42

PACIFIC
Five DD of the destroyer screen for TF79(2BB2CA 5CV 8DD)AC locate and attack the S-35 while the KB is moving in range to attack Pearl Harbor. 1 hit and haevy damage to the sub are reported from the DDs

PBY-5 Patrol planes spot KB later that morning and get first crack at the KB. 59 allied bombers consisting of Bostons, Fortresses, Bolos, Liberators, and B-19As, escorted by a gaggle of 54 fighters flying escort try to punch through a CAP of 65 Zekes and a pair of Rufes. The Zekes are flying 3-tiered CAP level of 9k, 12k, and 19k. 10 Zekes are shot down in defense of KB but the Japanese CAP takes out 42 of the 54 enemy fighters and between the CAP and the flak another 8 heavy bombers kiss the waves. The bombers seem to be rattled from the aggressive defense of the Zeke CAP. Instead of keeping any type of formation the heavy bombers lumber over the Japanese ships in small packets. All five carriers along with both battleships are targeted by enemy bombers that are working individually instead of as a team. After dropping their payloads the lumbering heavy bombers return for Pearl Harbor, empty of their payloads and with 0 hits.

KB has sent an attack too. Reports from patrol planes and subs in the area of Pearl Harbor the previous day reported a large number of enemy ships outside of Pearl Harbor's base. Many of the ships spotted were reported as CAs. My WAG was that Jack did not want to get his ships stuck in port and had a carrier or two parked at PH on patrol to provide air support from the fighter CAP.
43 Kates escorted by 43 Zekes come to PH with orders for a naval attack. Jack has a CAP of 46 fighters of various makes/models. I lose 3 Zeke and two Kates. My escorts take down 31 enemy fighters and then the Kates go to work. They attack 5 DD and a single CL and only the CL Detroit is damaged, taking 5 torpedoes. The CL sinks.

TF59(4BB 3DD)Bombardment stops by Midway to shoot up the base. I need to and very much plan to do much more of this in the early war to beef up the ratings of my naval officers and crews. My DD Tokitsukaze takes 3 shells from defensive fire, and the DD Yukikaze takes a single shell but then it's my turn. The bombardment destroys a single PBY-5, does light damage to the airbase, supply depots, and runways, and reportedly causes 158 casualties and destroys 8 gunz. Although the two DD have very light damage I think next time I'll not have the DD escorts participate in a bombardment.

B-17s out of Pearl Harbor find the last ship of TF110(1AK)Transport SW of Kona. As the AK Kanaiyama Maru tries to limp home she takes 5 hits from the heavy bombers and is sunk.

MALAYA/DEI
60+ LB with Zeke escort from Kota Bharu push past a light CAP to hit Singapore. I lose a Zeke and 3 Nells while Jack loses 5 Hurricane, and a Swordfish, Vildebeest, and Wirraway. The base takes 11 hits, supply depots 4 hits, and the runway 50 hits. Soon this place will be closed for business...

Jack hits TF49(1DD 1APD)SC from Singapore and Batavia as TF49 tries to limp back to Saigon. A gaggle of about 20 LB/DB manage to score 3 bomb hits on Patrol Boat #36 while the DD Murakumo two bombs herself. Both Japanese ships are on fire with heavy damage. As a note, I had a CAP mission set up from Kuching but I think the weather stopped the mission.

PHILIPPINES
130 LB from Takao continue the pounding of Takao. I lose another two Sally there from flak but pound the base and runway while doing light damage to the supply depots.

CHINA
Nates from Tatung attack then ROC Manchuria Adv Corps, at 54,26. I lose a Nate and kill a gun while causing 12 casualties. The upside is the ratings of my pilots are gradually increasing.

8 Sallys with a few Babs from Chengting get a crack at the ROC Manchuria Adv Corps, at 54,26 also. No hits, no errors, but experience is building.

Marys and Nates from Bako hit the Chinese held base of Wenchow doing light damage to the base, depots, and runways.
