Hi Guys,
Althought I have had this game for a few months now,I must be honest and say I have not devoted enough time to it,as I have been buying alot of other Matrix games since I first found out about Matrix games in 2008 !

My question Is there a to do check list players go through and repeat each turn.

1 = CREATE TRANSPORT / RESUPPLY CONVOYS.

2 = CREATE ASW TASK FORCES.

3 = CREATE SEARCH MISSIONS.

4 = UPGRADE BASES.

I intend to have a printed check list, that I go throught each turn as there is alot to remember to do in the game,it's easy for the AI it is programmed to check and do everything each turn,I need to be able to get in a similar mind set,as I don't want to forget something really important.

Personally, I just click through base to base, make assignments for units at the base (if needed) and making notes on what each base needs (i.e. more fighters, search planes, supplies, etc.). When I am in each theater, I check the TF out at sea to make sure they are doing what I want.

Once I get done with the bases/theater, I then go to the TF master list...isolate the subs and check out which ones are damaged/out of fuel/out of torpedoes and are not heading home yet. After that, I check may plane pools to see how they are doing and possibly ungrade some units if possible.

I try to make my routine as easy as possible. I sure everybody has different methods. Use what is best for you.

As Allied player, clockwise base by base like Charbroiled. As Japanese player, counterclockwise base by base.

Well here are my helpful hints.

1. Establish a map routine. For example I always start on the WCUSA/Alaska, move south to Panama, then HI (including Midway) then south to Pago Pago, then up through the Gilberts and Marshalls, and CentPac, and so on ending in Aden. I basically zig-zag up and down the map checking TF/Subs/bases. I am playing AB extended map and am Allies in mid-1944 so I have a lot of map to cover. I found doing it the same way every time helps me not miss important things. Occasionally if something important happens during a turn I will jump to that part of the map first and then go back to my routine but you'd be surprised. I have had major CV engagements in the eastern half of the map that did not get looked at until I made it all the way across. I do this because I learned the hard way that not paying attention will get you. I lost six TK in 1942 because I did not reset movement on the return trip from oz and they thought they could waltz right past Tarawa.

2. Move your subs every turn. I was lazy about this until I started losing subs left and right. If you let them sit in one hex their DL goes up and you get the dreaded "Helen attack SS Sharkbait; SS Sharkbait is HIT!!" message way too often.

3. Try to think where you are going to need supplies/fuel in the next few months as opposed to right now. Nothing stops a well run op than running out of one or both of those just as you are about to achieve a major victory.

4. Keep your MS moving all the time. True you might not need a lot more at your forward bases right now but no one ever died from having too much supply or fuel. This goes for both sides. Allies more fule supply and LCU; Japanese all that plus resources and oil

Once you setup a resupply convoy, is it safe to trust the automatic convoy option ?

I do not use or trust the automatic convoy system.

Instead, I use CS (continuous suppy) TFs.

To create these, create a transport or tanker TF as you normally would (with escorts, if needed, AKs and TKs). Preferably create in from the port you want the suppiles to come from (i.e. Pearl Harbor). If the TF is created in a different port then where the suppiles will be coming from, then set the "Home Port" to the supplying base. Set the destination to the base you want supplied. Right below the TF picture, click on "Human controled"...it will change to "CS: <base to be supplied>". The TF will automatically start loading supplies (and fuel if you have tankers). If the base is not the suppling base, you will have to stop loading and set the destination to the supplying base. The TF will then go to the supplying base....start loading and will the go the base to be supplied.

The TF will then load supplies....go to the base to be supplied.....unload....go to the supplying base....load...and will repeat until you cancel the CS routine. The default speed for the TF will be set to "cruise", so if you want supplies to go faster, change to speed to "mission speed". If the base to be suppiled is a front line base that eats a lot of supplies, you might want to set the speed to "fast speed".

Thanks for info charbroiled very interesting,at least once you have set that all up it's one less thing to worry about cheers!

Regarding the automatic convoy option,since gamers don't use or trust it, will this be tweaked in future patches to fix it so that it becomes a trusted option?

I think it has been "tweaked" for AE, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a fix for stock. Some people use it with some effectiveness, but you really need to watch the convoys as they tend to ignore enemy controlled areas.

p.s. The CS (continuous supply) convoys will not work for moving resourses or oil....only supplies and fuel.

automatic convoy bad... Human controlled convoy good.   To add on to the above if your planning an invasion, plan plan plan.  its better to take your time and make sure your troops are loaded correctly in a TF then find out you have half your troops on shore and the rest steaming away at 12knots.

I've tried several times to create checklists for myself, but the situation is just too fluid for them to be of great value.

I would recommend, though, that you devise a good system of keeping track of just what your intentions are for your task forces. One of my biggest problems is that I'll ships at Port A that I need to transport forces from Port B to Port C, then by the time they get to Port B, I forget what they are there for!

Move subs
Check reinforcements
Base list for out of supply bases that you may have forgotten about

That is one of my biggest problems.

And Knavey is right about the subs. I also forget about those subs I have hanging around here and there.
