HUD3 Useage Rights

Post by Bucks »

Due to the continued attitude of a particular individual, it has become necessary to limit the useage of the HUD3 to those who request the right to do so.

I am unable to continually devote 1,000s of hours to database work simply to have it copied by others not prepared to do the work themselves.

I will be making a new license agreement available ASAP. As soon as the database encryption software is available the HUD3 will be encrypted and useage will be greatly reduced. I have noticed that sections of the HUD3 have already been transferred into another ANW database and due to the actions of a single individual I am forced to restrict access to my work.

It is unfortunate that a single person can influence the direction of the game in this way, but his actions repeatedly contravene normal acceptable behaviour. I also deeply apologise to those many innocent people that are effected by this decision and the actions of one person.

Thanks in Advance

Evidently, you haven't bothered to read the fine print (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/) on expiration within your own license. It's been said before, but probably is worth repeating at this time. Reading the fine print can save you from embarassment.

You mean, like how the Pirate units from the PlayersDB were incorporated into the HUD3 without attribution in the June 12, 2009 edition?

It's not like anyone's complaining about it, either. Personally, I'm just happy that folks find it worthy to use our techniques and ideas to further the enjoyment of the game by others. If only others could offer up their help to the community in similar ways, this game would actually be fixed.

[EDIT] Wrong date.

NOT AIMED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR

The "Pirate Units" are simply not PDB units only. The use of the | operator was contained in the ODB and has been used elsewhere. Somebody wants to claim he wrote the code as well? If so, maybe he's blaming the wrong people for screwing it up...

The | has the effect of making any text based information "invisible" as was used extensively in the ODB's Torpedo Tube mounts. Unfortunately the PDB units don't do a very good job of hiding the mounts in question and using the ODB structure and a little imagination I've gone at least one better...

Since the HUD3 is my work, the decision to change the agreement between myself and users of the database is mine and mine alone. As we say down this way, "tell your story walking".

Cheers

Which is, of course why no one was silly enough to try and 'claim' them as personal property.

Also, since all values contained within all H3 databases are used elsewhere, there can be no claim on any of them as proprietary. Your logic is unravelling faster than a cheap sweater. [:D]

Gloves off, I'm devoting some time to exposing Mr Hum.

Watch for new posts containing all sorts of goodies exposing him for what he is...

Cheers

The last time you took that position, things did not end well for you, at all.

As you can see, neither Matrix nor other community members want to hear you rant. If you really want to 'take the gloves off', I'd suggest that you do it in a place where no restrictions will be placed upon either you or any respondants. You've been there before:

http://groups.google.ca/group/comp.sys. ... cal/topics

and

http://www.harplonkhq.com/forum/index.php

Both sites will allow you to post whatever you like without fear of reprisals or banishment. There is no need to continually molest innocent forumites with your behaviour.

Herman Hum - Posts @ Matrix = 1736

Darren Buckley - Posts @ Matrix = 426

Who is "ranting" ?

Get me banned please, then I have a reason not to deal with your BS.

Unfortunately, you'll find that the messages I post are to help new users try to get around known problems in their game.  That can hardly be construed as a rant.

However, as has been said before, you are not a representative of either Harpoon, AGSI, or Matrix.  You have no reason to deal with anyone at all except by your own choosing.

Again, allow me to invite you to come with me to other sites whereupon you may take the gloves off.  I'm sure that you'll feel better expressing yourself in a manner befitting your personality without the constraints of forum decorum.

Now you do Psych work?

Wasting time and money here if you do. Since you've never met me you're taking a long walk on a very short wharf...

Not at all.  You certainly want to say things that you are not allowed to express under the Matrix rules of decorum.  Why not come to a place where no such rules apply?

Why continue to molest innocent forumites who probably do not want to hear what either you (or I) say?
