Greetings.

On my list of items to understand or clarify for AE is this carry-over question from stock:

If I understood previous posts, both "ASW" and "Naval Search" settings could result in sightings and attacks/hits on enemy subs. "Naval Search" could be done to the range limit of the aircraft. "ASW" would have a max of half the range of the aircraft but result in a "tighter" (more effective?) search pattern. I think I remember jwilkerson saying that he rarely used "ASW" when hunting subs.

1. Is this disticntion the same in AE as it was in stock?

2. Do the new "slice of the pie" search commands apply to "ASW" as well as to "Naval Search" missions?

Regards,
Helldiver

long ago a couple of people came up with tests that nav search 4 hexes is as effective as ASW 8 hexes as the only difference seems to be that the range is halved when you set your bombers to ASW. But that was WITP and I have no clue about AE

its probable that ASW aircraft carry more payload than a search plane of the same type but is it programmable? if it is i am sure the boys have came forth in AE (no pressure intended )

In AE, all missions other than ASW have had their ASW ability against submarines significantly reduced. Now, if you want to perform ASW you will fly ASW.

And have pilots with decent ASW EXP (i.e. not all pilots have it and there is no more universal EXP)...

Thanks for the responses.... one unanswered question:

In AE, can we assign ASW searches for designated search arcs (90-180 degrees, e.g.)?

Helldiver
