Is there any way to provide escorts to fighter/bombers on Naval attack?

I have Beaufighters on Naval attack and they keep getting bounced by fighters while they are barge busting. I have set fighters at the base to escort and even set one of the Beaufighter units to escort but they continue to fly unescorted.

Stock scn 15 latest patch.

Those on 'Escort' will provide escort to them just like any attack mission. Obviously the ones there at the moment aren't, but I can't guess why. How are the ranges of the respective fighters available?

Everyone is set to range 6. I have P-47Cs and P-38G/Js at the same base. I have yet to get an escort.

Example:

Day Air attack on TF, near Cagayan at 42,59

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 6

Allied aircraft
Beaufighter VIC x 10

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Beaufighter VIC: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
AG AG-2061
AG AG-5087
AG AG-2528

I don't know. You could try making the shortest range fighter the attacker (that would be the P-47C?). I don't know why else.

I've had the same problem.  Sometimes they take an escort, but often they don't.  If I can, I put a small group of bombers in with them and that almost always does the trick.  Limits the range, though.  Other than that, I try not to let the Beau's do naval attack with a range where they might go into a well CAP'd base.

USN and USMC fighter bomber pilots took pride in never needing an escort!

I am sure Torpedo 8 regretted this.

These are Brit units so I don't think that they would be so impolite as to refuse an escort.

It has less to do with ability than with tactical situation. Nobody would want to get bounced by enemy fighters at 100ft.....

??

There is a big difference between USN/USMC in the latest fighters carrying a few bombs and 2E's like the Beau or Mossie or USAAF/RAAF/RNZAF P40/P39's

Plus the island campaigns were mostly conducted with Air Supremacy, not a long campaign like PNG or the PI where this was harder to obtain.

This isn't something I've looked into, but as I'm a software tester (unemployed -- anyone know of any paying openings?) a couple ideas have popped into my head.

1. Do you have specific targets, which can sometimes be done for naval attack, or just random?

2. What are the naval search levels you have set? Are the attacks maybe being carried out by the search force, which would likely not be escorted?

Fighter bombers aren't able to do naval search.

They are set to 6,000 feet and attack at 2000 feet. Only fighters have to bet set to 100 feet to attack.
