Note to myself : need to read more than just the monthly summary by the developper

10% against the AI to learn the game.

90% multiplayers but i think netplay and PBEM must be two tools of the same game aka multiplayer.  Will write a word about that on the other threat.

"90% multiplayers" does not help for the survey.
Can you be more specific or do you prefer that your vote don't fit the survey ?

I have bumped this thread since there has been some dicussion on this topic recently.

There were more posts responding to the survey, so the numbers shown here are not the final ones. I wasn't able to find the full results on my disk (after looking for about 5 minutes). If I come across it later, I'll post the final results to this thread. Note that the numbers shown here did not change all that much when the final respondents are included.

In honor of Yoshino being the 100th respondent, here is an updated summary. Note that the bar chart show the counts, but since there are 100 respondents, it also shows the percentage.

Thank you Steve for for being on the stick about the posts, interesting statistics speak for themselves and these are from what I believe to be from only WIF board game players I wonder what the stats would say if we surveyed the war gaming computer world that might be interested in buying what many have called the finest war game ever constructed. Again, please not taking sides "just the facts maam just the facts" I personally do not like PBEM [tried it once for two weeks,] I know not a very long trial and I should give it more of a chance and will do so when MWIF is released.

After looking at the thread I have not answer so I add mine.

AI 25%
net play 55%
PBEM 15 %
Head to head 4%
solitaire 1%

Interesting that but interpretation may vary.

Solitaire: nil (I got better things to do)
Hotseat: (I'd rather watch paint dry)
AI Opponent: (SC2, my mod, my multi strategy reactive AI which is way excellent so CWIF 0%)
NetPlay: 50%
PBEM: 50%

I want to play real people. A solid AI for CWIF would be impossible to do with current technology. Its only good for learning the game.

This citation is from a french general of WW1, if I am not mistaken. I think it's from Marechal Foch : Mon centre faibli, mon flanc droit est enfoncé, qu'est-ce que je fais? J'attaque! I like it.

Another well-known French dictum of WWI is, "La meilleure défense c'est l'attaque!"

AI - 80%
PBEM-20%

Might change depending on gameplay (Witp for me went from 100% AI to 10% AI after about a year).

Depends on a number of factors - not least on whether you think the AI will provide a sufficient challenge. Depends on the game; some do, some don't. Personally, given the complexities of this game and the simply mind numbing array of moves possible with land units, aircraft etc in each sub phase (let alone impulse) I think this one is going to be extremely challenging to program - but that's just my opinion based on my memories of playing the board game over ten years ago.

For the same reason that chess players like to move the pieces around before deciding on their move. Being able to control both sides lets you explore the advantages/disadvantages of possible moves. Solitaire also lets you control the die rolls for both sides - which truly lets you see "what happens if I ... and then he ...?".

For learning the rules, especially the 80 optional rules, soitaire play reduces the pain of learning by trial and error.

This is true of course. And I've had very challenging solitaire games (especially as I grow older - go figure).

But no matter how much thought you put into it, a real live, knowlegeable human opponent will always do something unexpected.
