Think the Huckleberry offer was for Johnny Ringo.

So celibate 1 have you looked at the AE manual yet?  It's not cheating.

Among others, iirc (the line was used more than once, i think)... but he definitely wanted to have a go with J.R., though... and finally did.

BTW: this is from an article i just found on "I'm your huckleberry":

"more common usage came to mean, in the words of the "Dictionary of American Slang: Second Supplemented Edition" (Crowell, 1975):

"A man; specif., the exact kind of man needed for a particular purpose. 1936: "Well, I'm your huckleberry, Mr. Haney." Tully, "Bruiser," 37. Since 1880, archaic.

The "Historical Dictionary of American Slang" which is a multivolume work, has about a third of a column of citations documenting this meaning all through the latter 19th century.

So "I'm your huckleberry" means "I'm just the man you're looking for!"

Dear Diary,

On day 103 of my celibacy, I have to admit that going celibate hasn't been as difficult as I had expected. As I contemplate the imminent release of AE, however, I realize that I haven't even tasted of temptation yet. I truly don't know whether I can stay away from AE, and there's no way of knowing until the game is released and I can face the monster eye to eye.

Val Kilmer should of received the "Best male Performance" award for his work on Tombstone, but he was beat by Tom Hanks on Philadelphia. IMO, Kilmer was much better.

Dear Diary,

On day 107 of my celibacy, I purchased AE. It is downloading at 500KB/second and should be installed within 15 minutes. Please note that this is NOT a violation of my vow. My vow extends only to engaging in a PBEM. So I am safe for a little while - at least until Miller decides he wants to try a game.

P.S. I'm not rationalizing my behavior, am I?

No new diary entry!!!!! and yet many writings being produced by Canoerebel on the AE forum.   I fear that the glamorous AE is working her seductive charms on that pledge made by Canoerebel.

Your next post will be stating that you haven't broken your vow as it a PBEM "against" someone other than John or Miller.

Dear Diary,

On day 109 of my celibacy, I have survived the initial shock attack by AE, but only barely. I bought, downloaded, and installed AE without difficulty, toyed around with it awhile including one turn of the Grand Campaign vs. the AI, and decided to break my vow. I advertised for an opponent for a Coral Sea Scenario match...but when I didn't get a reply within ten minutes, I eschewed patience, re-pledged my vow, and played two Coral Sea games against the AI instead. Now I'll try something more meaty against the AI.

So, for now, my pledge remains intact. I'm awaiting Miller's decision, too, as to whether he wants to begin a game. If he does, I'll break my vow. But I'm not yet sure Miller is willing to start a grand campaign this quickly. So there's still hope.

*(#*$###

Canoerebel

P.S. NYGiants, I like you're thinking! I tinkered with the idea, but I've decided that any PBEM game will be a vow-breaker. But keep thinking of things along those lines; perhaps I can come up with a loophole that would satisfy a lawyer.

I vow to remain faithful to my wife, unless Jennifer Aniston or Sophie Marceau want to begin a game.

Dear Diary,

On day 114 of my celibacy, the remarkable thing is that I'm still celibate. Last week, I walked right up to the altar by advertising for an AE opponent, but then got cold feet and backed away before anyone could accept the challenge.

I'm toying around with AE right now, but haven't played since last Thursday. It's a huge time commitment and I only have it loaded on my work computer. So the daunting learning curve has me daunted at the moment.

I think one of two things will happen with AE/WitP:

1) If AE proves to have few bugs (or those bugs are eliminated), and if it the balance of play is satisfactory, it will continue the dominance it has already achieved and WitP will be quickly eclipsed - even ongoing games will end as people decide to move on to the New and Improved WitP; or

2) If AE has lots of bugs that are persistent, or if the balance of play is unsatisfactory (meaning, in my opinion, that Japan's options are too limited so that the game just doesn't have the thrill of WitP), then WitP could survive and thrive.

I hope the former is true, because AE potentially offers an experience beyond that offered by WitP. Even though it requires much more time and effort, the new features make it worth it.

Judging from the status and desires of my two favorite opponents, I won't be picking up an AE PBEM game for awhile, yet. So I'll remain celibate for now.

Witp does have the virtue of being a tad easier I think, compared to AE. And it is a fun game , I had a blast playing stock. So your points are well taken.

But man am I having fun with AE.

I think the limited IJN merchant marine will be a drawback to AE. However, that can be fixed with the editor.
