Allies continue to clean up Japanese remnant in French Polynesia. Soon they will be annihilated.

IJA attempted to add more troops to Thursday Island, a chokepoint between New Guinea and Australia. It's become a stalemate, since I had time to reinforce it as well.

Some activity is taking place east of Hong Kong as British and American troops are slowly probing Japanese defenses around Okinawa region.

There are now 2 IJA divisions on Thursday island. I estimate 5-6 to be still in North Philippines and about as much in East New Guinea. I wonder: does IJA have enough manpower to attempt a major invasion anywhere else?

Japanese transports run into Allied stealth ships...

Actually, it's because IJN's fleets were so large, WPO did not visually load Royal Navy battleships that snuck up on them... ;) Japanese have quickly resolved this issue by splitting up their transports.

It's time to look again at IJN destroyer lineup. In the last week several more were sunk; here's what's left (or at least not 100% confirmed to be sunk):

Momi class:

Momi
Kaya
Kagero
Aoi

Asakaze class:

Hatsuharu
Uzuki
Isonami

Sakura class:

Tachibana

Enoki class:

Enoki
Nara
Tsubaki
Maki

Amatsukaze class:

Isokaze

Minekaze class:

Hakaze
Akikaze

No. 2 (Wakatake) class:

No. 2 (joins on 12/15/22)

This places the remaining number at 16.

The end of November was a good time for Allies as two Japanese fleets got ambushed and virtually annihilated. Even though Allies paid for those successes, they still came out ahead. After all, 1 A : 1 J - or even 1,5 A : 1 J loss ratio is perfectly acceptable for RN and USN, as they are on track to receive many more ships... :)

IJN escaped, undoubtedly shattered by Ise's torpedo holes. It's time for me to pull back as well; major January refits are coming up, and I need to be ready for them.

Allies are starting to look for the next landing opportunity. Amami, to get closer to mainland Japan? Tassaronga, to isolate and destroy IJA group at Guadanalcanal? Bonga, to encircle the 42 Japanese units in New Guinea? Choices, choices...

Thank you :)

So far I am still deciding. IJN is about to receive Kaga, and that's going to be one tough cookie to manage. Despite the apparent success of Allied navies - after all, almost entire mainland Japan is blockaded - things are not as rosy as they seem. Tosa affair sent 5 dreadnoughts to drydocks for several months. Port Moresby battle cost me several more. Yes, in a year I will overpower IJN by 2 to 1, but so far things are quite grim. Throwing waves of destroyers against enemy battleships is a desperate move, where the hope is 1, maybe 2 torpedoes planted amidships in a night battle at a price of no more than 2-3 small ships lost.

Here's what I got so far when it comes to comparing big guns available. For IJN I list the latest known ship status, its location, and the date on which it was observed. For Allies, I will say that I got under 10 capital ships in fighting condition...

IJN / USN / RN / FRN

Kaga 230101
Mutsu Heavy damage. New Guinea 11/25/22.
Nagato On fire. New Guinea 11/25/22.

This is why Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore are so vital to Allies: without them it's a very bad idea to initiate a Jutland-sized battle as damaged vessels probably won't make it home.

Ship repair points by region:

I have a question: Port size downgrade.
When a port of size 9 or less sustain damage from several air and ship's bombardment will the size downgraded?
Thanks for any help.

No it does not. Frankly, WPO lacks firepower sufficient to do that much damage ;) At absolute worst your use of facilities is disrupted by a week, and it's going to take more than that for enemy to limp home and rearm.

There isn't much going on. It seems that both sides are exhausted; I am waiting for my commerce raiders to be completed - I already got 7 on the way from California, and several more dozens are coming up - and undoubtedly so are Japanese ones.

They are so tired on Thursday Island that it looks like they are having a spit-ball fight instead of an all out fight.

I am rereading your AARs with more interest this week since I picked up WPO in the sale. I am looking forward to ramping up and playing as soon as my schedule opens up. (Darn, I hate it when life takes away from my gaming! ) So, thanks for the effort of keeping this AAR going,.... it helps noobs like me!
