It's just too damn hard!

It's one of those games...tells you you can't do something, but not points you to the source.

I've tried to complete a turn more than once now and each and everytime, I end up with the same situation...cannot progress. I know it's my fault...but the game won't bloody help me. It tells me there's a problem. It tells me why I can't end the turn...but not specifically...and it doesn't take me to the cause of the problem.

I had the same issue with GG WaW, which is why I ended up dropping that. I just couldn't get my head round the fact that the game told you you couldn't do something, but wouldn't twell you what to do to get over the issue. I mean...if it can recognise you have a problem, why not tell you where the problem is and, better still, centre on it if it's on the map!

It really is very very frustrating. I know it's going to be a great game when I get a grip of it, but at the moment I'm just picking and clicking stuff in the hope I get over the problems!!

In my latest attempt at moving the game past turn 1, I decided to turn off the rules for strict movement and combined forces etc...eventually, gave up again. That's my fourth attempt at turn 1!!

It's telling me I haven't activated all my armies or something...that was actually the error priot to me switching off the strict turn option...but there is something stopping me progressing my turn.

I've downloaded the manual sections available...nope. Nothing there helps. Of course, they are better than the manual that came with the game, but it's still lacking. It seriosuly needs a step by step on how to progress through a turn.

Just voicing some frustrations. I expect as I continue to load it up and try 1st turn againa, again and again I'll become proficient.

Oh...on the positive side, I'm surprisingly not fussed now by the map orientation. I'm still mad such a stupid choice was made...but it doesn't actually affect me in the game.

I think it will be a help to all of us when a comprehensive manual is finally produced....I can live with all the bugs as I know they will be fixed, but I am impatient for a detailed manual..and not in a piecemeal fashion either..

J.D.

Depending on the plan you chose, there will be specific attacks into specific locations with certain armies. If those armies are not directed to an attack (typically during the Aug. pre turn, and/or Aug turn), the game will not let you advance to the next phase-or initiate the combat portion of the military phase.

The armies with a required attack will have a red arrow just above the unit icon. When you click on the icon, the pop-up window will have the required action listed in red.

Your difficulty at this stage is a common problem with the game. I recall reading something at Ageod that they will add some kind of tool tip in a January patch which will address this recurring problem which many have run into. I had the same situation-how ever how long it took to figure it out; it was too long.

This is just another one of those little "things"-its easy, but you need to know what to do. I've heard brain surgery is easy after you have done it once or twice.

Also be sure to unpause the game so
the A.I. can run its portion of the turn
if you are using wego.

cool. Thanks Maestro. I knew that the plan determined your start, but I have an extremely low memory retention. Everytime I read the plan I choose, by the time I get to my first turn, I forget who was in charge of my armies and where I was allowed to go. I stumbled across a button which showed me what plan I choose so I could read it again, but I couldn't find it the last time I played.

Wayne...I do unpause the Ai...it's the one thing I am able to do.

Whilst I'm on about the game and whilst we are mentioning the unpause feature.....please do something with the text used in the game. Fist off, some of it is too damned big. Second, what's with the "variable" text size? I don't care if it doesn't fit in the alloted space. Make the alloted space scrollable.

Further evidence that even with enough of the bugs squashed to make the game "playable", this game was at LEAST 3 months away from being in a releasable state.

I, for one, am getting sick and tired of reading how hard Calvinus and Phillippe are working on solving interface problems and writing the manual. They wouldn't have to work so hard if the game wasn't prematurely rushed to market.

'tis true.

However, I bought it knowing about these issues. Just sounding off.

I have faith they'll sort it out.

Yep, they expect gratitude, when they were the wuckfits who released the crappy PoS in the first place?

This game will end up like Great Invasions. Semi-Playable at best.

It would seem that the adage, 'Be very careful when buying games by Russians' now extends to Italians.

I really don't know what the fuss is about.

You have the internet nowadays. It's not the same as the past, where you have to buy a game to see how it plays or wait for mates in your street to get it and tell you...or worse, rely on "professional" reviewers.

The internet affords you massive amount of knowledge...you just have to seek it. It's not AGEoDs fault that people rushed out and bought it. Every single one of us has the ability to wait for reviews, professional, semi pro and users...and make an informed decision

I think the hatred fired at companies is mind boggling.

Next time, hold off and get some info...that way you can keep your money or not.

I'm not saying the company has behaved ethically. But the venom being spat in their direction from people who choose to buy it outright, without investigation, is ridiculous. Seriously...you need to take a step back and accept some responsibility for buying the game without investigation.

I'm blaming no-one for my frustrations as I bought it knowing the state of the game. I only posted here that I am finding it frustrating and in the hope that the devs listen and read and take note...so that they may change the things I'm finding difficult.

While I agree with you on the game release. I must comment on Ageod.
Not one other company stands by their products more then them! They Respond to Questions and problems in a timely and proffessional manner. I have yet to see their level of involvement from any other computer game company. Have you looked at forums from other companies? Questions go unanswered for weeks, if they answer at all!
Ageod will even respond to the people who put them down.
You can criticize the game, but your comments on Ageods personel is out of line. There are no more dedicated and hardworking designers out there then Phil and Calvinus!
Thanks

Seriously, I bought the Rome Vae Victus expansion (read fix) from Paradox for their very flawed Rome game. Immediately, I had a problem installing and running the game...it simply crashes. I posted in their tech support forumand it was something like 2 days before a moderator answered. This is on a new release of a game...no-one seemed to be watching...almost like they were so confident that there were no issues that they decided to just kick their feet up.

Just mentioning this to prove the point above.

It's been said before by many people and I'll repeat it...whilst I am not excusing the release of this game, AGEoD and the developer are working overtime to remedy the situation. They also offered a refund. I see everything wrong with how they released the game, but they have acted 200% better than any other company I know that releases bugged software.

End of.

Whatsa matter, you don't have a built in magnifier on your mouse? . Seriously though, I second your suggestion.

I know you were joking Maestro....but just to be clear  I'm specifically talking about the Events page, War Plan page and the Battle results page...sometimes there's too much text to fit, so they make it smaller...just looks awful more than anything.

Whilst I'm here, I'd like to also mention the map. I'm over the orientation, but I find it incredibly difficult to determine where the front line is...or country borders!

I actually use the magnifier sometimes-and my eyes are not bad at all (20/20 & 20/30). I need reading glasses for fine print only, which for me means I have to use the magnifier in a few spots in this game. It is rare that I need to do this, but I should not have to at all.

This should be added to the wish list-along with some easily discernible borders.

I had the same problem. I always got stuck on turn 1 French Armies were always locked. I finally noticed that I needed to look at the other nations that I controlled (e.g. Russia) Those units had the red flags and had mandatory attacks. Once I moved those units and attacked the game continued. I spent most of my time trying to find a French Army that needed to attack and never looked at the other nations.

There are "next unit" keys (Return and Ins) and there is "M" which will cycle to the next unit with a mandatory attack (at least in 4d)

As suggestions (and this shouldn't be hard to do)

a) Is it true the "next" and "Mandatory" keys only will cycle through units of the currently selected nationality? It would be very helpful if they cycled through _all_ units that have not yet received orders. It's easy to overlook minor allies at present.

b) There should be a a "previous" as well as "next" ie if <Return> cycles to the next unit have <Shift><Return> or <Alt><Return> cycle to the previous unit.

Those would help a lot.

Drew Sullivan
