Status: offline 		Each time I figure something helpful about play making, I'll put it in this thread.

Here is something new that I have discovered. It may be old to some of you, but I finally figured it out.

When making a zone, place the last command point (with the zone coverage), close to the top of the zone. this way the player will sit there, play the coverage, and not keep backing up. When a player has to continue backing up, it appears that they are very slow to respond to a play.

I've been attempting to add a fieldgoal to situation plays
for any yardage in opposition half, down by 3 in the last minute of a game (canadian rules)

problem, how do I do that and is it even possible, if it is I cant see how to do it
it only lists up offensive & defensive plays no fieldgoal plays.

Status: offline 		you can't do it by adding a FG play.  i know, it's frustrating!!!

maybe if you change your MainData to allow your QB to kick the ball (?), the qb could do a drop kick.....but i have no idea if that would even work.  the game might not recognize it...because there's no holder. 

that's the best idea that i have..but it's just an idea.

I'm usually able to work my way through the PDS
but that had me baffled, so thought I'd I ask incase it was something I was overlooking.

Status: offline 		As I stated in the other thread, it would be nice to be able to make a quick kick play to be used inside the gameplan, but it cannot be done inside the PDS at this time.

I may mod a few things to see if it can be done.  We had to do that in the old days to get two tight end formations and things like that.

Status: offline 		I created a field goal play for the offense, but when on offense, the game does not go into the gokick code, so it always comes up as an error.

I'd have to say it is a no go.

A defensive player in zone coverage with automatically backpeddle to the center and back of the zone if he is in front of that point and not given another command.  After any Move To: commands, the player will also backpeddle to the center and back of whichever zone he is in at that point.  This change was made in July of 2007 to keep plays in front of zone coverage.  There was supposed to be a deep zone maximum drop back of someplace around 20 yards off the LOS, but I have not looked at that in quite a while.

Status: offline 		Yup, the Zone coverage seems like its broken in this game. I tried my hand at play creation the last few weeks by attempting to create a basic 52 defense from this site. Well the defense failed miserably because of the slow reaction times on Zones. In a Zone situation the safeties are unresponsive and just let receivers run through their Zone unaccounted for. Its really awful because it makes the deep passing game almost unstoppable. One of the great things about FBpro was how effective the zones were but I guess for this game defensive playbooks can only be based on man coverage schemes(very unrealistic).

Status: offline 		hey Hack, one thing that could make a difference is the Defense_PassReactionBaseTime in the constants file. Maybe reducing into negative numbers would make a difference, its probably worth a shot at this point?

I am generally against having the game do it automatically, because I want my players to do what I ask them to do scheme wise.  I lobbied against automatic line shifts and auto-backpedaling.  I have learned to use it this way, and it does make some things easier.  On the other hand, I have experience designing plays, and some game owners will not.

I have not been seeing that unless there is a mismatch.

Tell me which deep passes in particular work against your zones.  I'll check it out against some of my updated defenses.

No defense can or should be able to stop all offensive plays, that would be unrealistic as not very fun.  On the other hand, there shouldn't be unstopable plays either.

One way to slow down the post is in the offensive play itself. Make the WR that is running the post "wait .15" or ".25" on the line of scrimmge. This is a common problem that i am dealing with also, and this is one way to assist making it better.

i'll put pics of the zones that i run below....

Wow! this bit of advise made a huge difference. I even tried to slow them down even more with a "wait .5" and got amazing results. The safeties and underneath cover men acted like they do in real life. I suppose the issue is that if the receivers are not delayed the defenders don't have time to settle into their zones. Thanks, I'll try to finish my 5-2 playbook this weekend.

i often use "wait .25", then "wait .15", then "move", because the "wait .5" can be a tad bit too long.

Status: offline 		i tried it and failed.  Qb's can't punt on a normal offensive play.  So, you won't see any John Elway punts in my playbooks.

Status: offline 		+Don't use "Line-up on" for defensive players while in the "pre-play" screen. v2.2.9 does not recognize this in the actual game.

+If you are creating a defense against 0rb, 0te, 5wr, use "Key On" R1-R5 instead of M2M. for some reason, the CPU doesn't recognize M2M for more than 4 WRs.

I tried this out, and I am seeing M2M coverage on both a 5 receiver package and a 4 receiver package with a single back coming out of the backfield on a route.

How did you have the defense set up in Man?

oh yeah, it always works great in PDS, but never in actual games.

Status: offline 		I am seeing pretty good coverage in game.

The defense has to be set up for coverage of 5 receivers.

I tested a defensive play with 5 Either and one play with 5 Non-Backfield with 1 Backfield.
