Hi all. I would appreciate any help with my current game. I am using RHSEEO 7.91 scenario and I am playing as Japan against the Allied AI.

I know the AI is not a good opponent but I will have to do with it for the time being. The problem is that I choose to attack the Soviets from day one but I was unable to launch any air strike against any soviet port, airfield, ground unit by any Japanese air unit from Kwantung Area or even from Japanese mainland. Before you ask; all conditions required to launch air strike were good to go with (supply, moral, weather, providing escorts, ground support,….) but still no air strike were launched.

On the other hand, AI was able to launch air strikes at well against my air fields, ports, ground units, and even ships at sea whether on Japan mainland or Kwantung Area. My air units assigned to CAP are working properly against Soviet air attacks but no Japanese bombers are flying.

I am 42 days into the war and I managed to take Vladivostok without any kind of ground air support but I had to stop my assault due to logistical problems.

Is this a bug? Or is it a design issue for this scenario?

I have tried to check the scenario with the editor but I was unable to find what was causing this. Can any body help me with this issue? Is there a switch to activate the Japanese air-missions in Kwantung Area (note: I have noticed also that Japanese air transport units in Kwantung Area are limited supply transport missions only).

Sorry for the long post but would appreciate any positive feedback.

Max

Is "Soviets active" in the info screen?

Most mods have problems with the borders, so you might conquer soviet bases without declaring war, as the computer considers this bases to be outside the USSR

The AI versions of EOS family scenaios are AIO and MAIO.

You can NOT play AI in EEO or AIO or EBO - it does not work.

AI will mess up interior river systems and several other things.

Japan can ALWAYS attack Russia by air - all mods - nothing anyone can do to stop it. If you cannot your files have a problem.

I am having the same problem!!! In two different versions of EOS games. Do you mean the scenario files may be corrupted or is it a game engine problem?

The soviets are active. I checked the scenario again just to make sure. Also, the Soviets are launching daily air raids against my air fields, ports, naval TF, and ground units.

I am playing as Japan against Allied AI. IIRC AIO scenario is designed for AI to control Japan, Soviets are passive, and there is no interior river system. I want to use interior river systems as Japan and I am content playing against the AI for now. The problem is I can't launch air raids against the soviets. I have tried that many times getting the same result every time. I will use a fresh installation of the game and scenario and try again. Still, I will be grateful for any feedback.

I mean the game engine files. Scenario files should not be able to cause this symptom.
However, as insurance - I will proceed to test it.

You are somewhat confused: there IS an interior river system. You have no way not to have one. You have river ports and naval units - and so AI will try to use them - and it doesn't understand them.

More serious - there is NO WAY to have the Allies played by the AI. Joe Wilkerson insists it is simply not up to the job. So I never made any attempt to help the AI at all as Allies. I cannot fix what is fundamentally inoperable to begin with. IF you let the AI control the Allies - you will get lots of strange effects - and no real contest at all. RHSEEO - like most RHS scenarios - is a PBEM design - and it does things incompatable with non human management. The AI sceanrios address this to some degree - and not to use them for AI play is a fundamental error. It won't work in critical ways.

Of course, attacking Russia (strike north) is a difficult thing to do if you also are doing a strike south at the same time - so the whole premise of the game is lost on me. But have you tried this in stock? Can you attack Russia at the game start? In all my games I am messing with the Russians on the margins - and they have all responded with air strikes - and I have responded in kind - and the planes are flying. But I never tried to strike everywhere on turn one. It may be you cannot do that.

Hi all.

I have made some testing to find out what if it was possible for Japan to launch air strikes against the soviets and I found the following using afresh installation of the game:

1.Using stock scenario (# 15) where I made the soviets active from day one of the campaign, I was unable to launch any Japanese air strikes against Soviet bases or ground units.

2.Using RHSAIO scenario where I made the soviets active from day one of the campaign, I was also unable to launch any Japanese air strikes against Soviet bases or ground units.

3.Using RHSEEO scenario again with the same settings and I was unable to launch any Japanese air strikes against Soviet bases or ground units.

4.PzB in his game encountered the same problem I think.

5.Since I have done this before using an early version of Nemo’s mode “Empires Ablaze” and Nemo’s current AAR confirms that it is possible to launch air strikes against Vladivostok and destroy the Soviet navy ships there, I checked the different scenarios using the editor and came to the following possible reason.

6.I do not believe it is a bug. I think it might be hard coded not to allow the Japanese aircraft to attack any bases or ground units with their “Nation” designated as Soviet regardless of the HQ. Accordingly, I did a small test changing the Nation of some soviet bases and ground units to other nations and it worked. I was able to launch air strikes against these bases and ground units from day one. This is also corroborated by the fact that in Nemo’s mode (at least the version I have) Vladivostok’s nation is designated as French base where as the ground unit are Soviet which is why he was able to attack Vladivostok but not ground units in his current game.

I wished to share these findings with all of you in order to make more testing and make changes which will allow the option to Japanese players to attack the soviets by aircraft.

Max

Suchan, Vladivostok & Sovetskaya Gavan are assigned as French bases in Empires ABlaze !!!

I'm pretty sure this has a lot to do with it ... as these are the only bases I can attack... I haven't tried ground attacks though.

So I'll try a fresh install, and do some testing from there ...

First with these bases assigned as Soviet and touching off the magic hex. I'll let you know how it goes in a few days.

Cheers

The problem is that in the version of the mod I'm using for my PBEM I have designated all the bases I have hit as SOVIET AND I've managed at least 3 ground attacks against Soviet LCUs, some in bases, some not. I'll order some strikes on other areas of the Soviet Union tomorrow to see what happens and will report.

Hi Nemo. Just to be clear. You need to make sure the "nation" of these basis and ground units is something other than Soviet regardless of the HQ. based on the simple test I have done, Japanese aircraft with attack any Soviet base or ground unit if its nation is other than soviet even if assigned to soviet HQ. Good luck.

Empires Ablaze is a mod of RHS Level 6 - itself a mod of CHS 155 - so there is no reason to think it does not share with stock, CHS, and all three levels of RHS the same code features.

I have been able to attack Soviet Targets very early in ongoing games - Polynick attacked a Japanese base in January and I ordered counterattacks.

This may be a turn one issue only - or a 1941 issue only. If so - it is fine by me. I think a Japanese attack on the USSR in 1941 is wholly unreasonable -

unless it is a strike north game - in which there is no invasion of the SRA -

but then reality cuts in - where will Japan get the oil it needs?

That is WHY it did strike south - after a generation of planning to strike north.

At one point ALL Soviet ports were French. But when Matrix fixed the code so Soviet ships work in Soviet ports - this was changed. It is probably not intended to have them be French in EE - just a holdover from when it was the only way to make Soviet ships work.
