Tried creating my first two random games and in both cases the program put me on an island that is one hex in size. Land is set to 70%. The AI regimes are all on larger islands. Using the latest beta patch. Is this a bug or am I setting the map parameters up wrong somehow? Thanks.

Edit - Made another map with the same parameters and this time I'm on an island of about 6 hexes. No other towns. Will keep making some maps to see if I can get one that does not handicap me quite so much.

I have regime set to three for all the random maps mentioned above.

But after the map is created, you can choose who is Human and who is AI. Take one of the other regimes for yourself if you like.

Or change the % land a bit. It's kind of annoying to have to redo the entire cycle again but I've never had to do more than 2 or 3 to get something suitable. It's really not that critical. You just have to develop a different strategy. Like DL says above, you can always change the player assignments to start somewhere else, although that's a bit of a guessing game too.

OK, thanks. Did not realize you could swap positions before starting. I eventually got an acceptable map. Just thought it was odd that the program would put you in such a bad starting position, but maybe that's why it's called a *random* game.
