Woaaaa... steady now. So, let me get this right, CA is ready for beta?... that is indeed progress... I'm pretty sure Matrix can find hundreds of volunteers for this one...

Erik, one volunteer is here by the way ...

Sounds excellent! Sign me up. I have waited for this game ever since Atomic ended the V4V/W@W series.

Yep, the best operational wargames of all time. It was a shame that they were ever discontinued. CA looks to be a worthy successor.

Indeed it was. I read in a forum , that a group of ex-players tried to acquire the rights, from whoever is with dealing with it at the company presently holding them. The guy had no idea they even have the rights for that series, my understanding was that he didn't even knew what the games were...

I was just discussing them the other day. They were the last operational level games I really enjoyed playing in a computer.

Re the beta-testing. Will new beta-testers that have signed and returned the beta-agreement get anything to test soon?
I signed up in January and have not received the program yet.

Thanks

This is all really good news. However, before I’m convinced that this is really true, I need to hear confirmation from Erik Rutins (or someone equally authorized to release information) that development and Beta testing is as announced by Ludovic.

After all, we have heard announcements before and not seen the results. We have also been promised screen shots. Since development is done, can we please have some screen shots?

Regards, RhinoBones

RhinoBones,

I can only provide information about work I control. I wrote that game is now completed and have stopped developmement because I've nothing to add/enhance/fix. I did not said that beta test was running or even started.

About screen shots, none have been posted because there was nothing new to show.

Regards,

LC

Oh come on, weve hardly had any screenshots, there must be loads of scenarios you could post a few screenshots from?

I would be far more interested in seeing screen shots of the editor at work.

Do you know what would be novel? How about a movie of a turn or two in play?

What this game needs is to pick up speed again. And Rhinobones comment already confirms what I wrote some posts ago about the tricky position it is in at this point in time.

About scenario, sorry but I receive a 'File is too large' error when trying to upload the whole screen even in jpeg format. So here is part of Epsom made by George Heredia and John Looby :

The blue square indicates that unit is in selection mode. In such a mode clicking another unit will deselect it and select a the top unit of clicked stack. Clicking in same stack cycle it thus allowing a quick examination of stack (Game use a similar method).

Here is Kiev 1941 by Pavel Voylov :

The red square indicates that unit is hooked (equivalent for Editor to the Game Order Mode). If designer click to another hex, unit will be displaced to the new location.

I really like Pavel's unit colors choice. You'll have to thank George for that. It took me 3 weeks to write the needed code and 1 more to fix colors import problems but it was worth the time :)

This game based on WEGO system at a tactical level has, at the moment, no equivalent on the market.
The concept looks really revolutionary. I am sure there are a lot of players who will be interested by this simulation.
It's strange to see such a slow development. I don't know really why.

Thanks Ludo.

Now, all in chorus, 'we want it, we want it....'

More seriously. it looks great. I was really curious about the editor, my curiosity is nearly satisfied, may one more screen , the map editor? please?

It is looking good.

Thanks Ludovic.

What does the E, T or F stand for on the top left of the unit counters?

Also, to upload your images of the full screen, open the files with microsoft picture editor (which you should have as standard). Go to edit picture, then go to resize image and just go to about 75% image size as a JPEG, that should be small enough to post the whole screen.

Im interested in seeing the interface. Has it changed from the original design? One of my biggest gripes with TOAW3 is the interface. Im hoping this is more intuative.

Cheers

H7X

I take the interface will be multilingual (apparently English and French at least) from the start ?

They show unit mode  (H) Hasty Defense, (T) Tactical or (F) Prepared Defense. There is no 'E', you probably misread a 'F'. Designers and beta-testers called for as much as possible of informations made available on units resulting to a quite small font :)

I did not think about reduction and will try next week to post some reduced screenshots. This said between reduction and compression loss I'm not sure that all texts will be readable.

Interface has not really changed in last 2 years. To which point it is intuitive is one goal of beta test. Being accostumed with game I really dont know how hard is the learning curve with interface.

At least, yes. Being french I've no problem with 'langue de Molière' :) If possible it would be nice to have Italian, Spanish and Portugese as well but I cant say for now which will be available.

It's in english. Ludo just uses the french version to help him develop.
