How are PBEM battles suppose to happen?

For Majors vs Majors
and
Majors vs Minors (controlled)

In our test PBEM game we seem to be getting different results.
Some battles no chits are chosen, some battle one side chooses.

Have we chosen a bad option, do we need to set all chit choices before hand or does that extra email system take place.

Id really like an official explanation on how this is suppose to work.
Thanks

Yes, to clarify, we are NOT using quick battles, but for some reason although there were several battles this past turn, only the attacker got to choose chits. What is the deal with that?

You might want to read this post on combat

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1656910

You only both pick chits when both sides are human MP and have two or more corps...when fighting minor countries only, only the human MP forces pick chits...or if attacking a human player's single MP corp, no chits are picked..

otherwise you use standing orders for your corps...

What, its very simple...

If you attack a human major power player who has 2 more corps in a stack, you both pick chits

If you attack a human major power player who has only 1 corp in the defending stack, or attack minor country corps which are not stacked with any major power corps at all, only the attacker picks chits. The defender does not and the ai selects a chit for the battle.

If the defender wants to have input over what chit is selected if attacked when they only have 1 corp in a stack, or over their minor corps, simply use the standing orders function for those corps to indicate which chit you would like selected if attacked.

Best

First off, thats not simple. It's unecessary. How about, instead, I get to pick chits for forces I control in all circumstances?

Is it too much to ask? Now I am not demanding this of you, ecn1, it is to the developer that I am asking these questions.

The idea is that if you had to pick chits for every single little piddling battle that happens on the board, then you be playing the pbem game basically in realtime (i.e. 10 years to finish)

I think this is a reasonable balance considering the mechanics of the game, you pick chits for major battles and let the piddling stuff go and let the ai handle it...

now, you can argue maybe for creating an option where you do pbem battles for every battle, but I think you will quickly find that you will have a very slow game, and be difficult to keep players playing over the long haul

I think it would be more reasonable to pick chits for battles you care about, which may not fit within the parameters the Developer has decided makes for an "important" battle.

So far, this "feature" is already causing some severe annoyance.

Thanks for the answer

I guess that makes soemsort of sense .... I guess we will need to set standing orders
The AI is terrible at picking chits
