I was wondering, if, the Cd Burner that comes with Microsft XP is sufficient or should I consider another commercial program?

I've never used the one with XP so can't help you there I'm afraid.

I use Nero and it comes free with new burners (or at least used to).

Hi Zap,

I've burned most of my music CD's using Media Player and it works totally well.

I use Nero for data.

With XP I used Nero 7, now with Vista I had to graduate to Nero 8.

If all you want to do is burn music, or data, XP and WMP will work fine. If you want to repair damged sound tracks, then you need to do some shopping. Nero is one of many that can help you out in this area.

Neither... download CDBurnerXP (freeware).

I've never had a preference over which one I bought with the exception of three rules
  1. It's in the colour I require (Black)
  2. It's available
  3. It's cheap
That's it. If I find one that matches all 3, it's considered a done deal

For burning data the actual program I use (and likely others) is the Nero Burning Rom - it is such an easy thing to operate.

As for CD's I take whatever is available but I've liked BenQ the most. I like their thin jewel cases.

Nero is definitely my favorite - I never use XP's built-in stuff as I've experienced problems using it on older computers. I likely won't have to burn a CD and put it in a Win98 machine anytime soon but it's nice to know that Nero's burned CDs always get read whereas XP's doesn't always work data-wise.

Making music CDs is generally fine with it though.
