Looking for interest for a Cruise in the Pacific.

One idea I had would be Honolulu to Suva, New Caledonia, Guadal Canal, Run the slot past Salvo Island, Truk, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. Return home from Tokyo.

Looking for Ideas, and people who would like to go. It would a 2 1/2 - 3 week deal.

Another idea I have is having some WW2 Vets go along. And with approx. 1000 passing away each day, it would be an oppurtunity of lifetime.

Thanks all!!

Randy

I'm not sure you could make all those stops by boat, in less than a month.

You could probably fly into Hawaii, then into Fiji. A jumper to Guad and a tour up to Rabaul (whatever they call them now-adays). Then up to Guam, for another boart tour of Guam-Siapan-Tinian.

But frankly, I don't think you could go by boat between them all (frankly, you'd be bored out of your mind and completely broke if all there was, was gambling).

I know the Stephen Ambrose estate runs historical tours. They're mosty Europe, but they do have a Pacific one. They'll also put together a customize one, for the right price.

Stephen Ambrose Tours

This is there "Pacific" tour:

Tour Includes:
• Group airfare: Los Angeles - Hawaii - Saipan - Tinian - Guam - Iwo Jima - Los Angeles
• Access to Iwo Jima and 63rd Anniversary Ceremonies
• Full time historian and logistical escort
• Educational road book full of maps and historical information
• First class accommodations in four or five star hotels
• Rooms with private bath or shower, hotel taxes, porterage and service charges
• Touring by private first class air-conditioned motor coach
• 10 Breakfasts, 9 Dinners and a Welcome Reception
• All entrance fees to museums and attractions

Optional post tour:
An optional post tour may be available with Military Historical Tours to Peleliu and Koror. Please contact the office if interested.

The Guam-Saipan-Tinian phase would require a chartered boat. When I lived there six years ago , you would catch an island hopper. (Air Micronesia-Continiental). There were no ferries , and I couldn't find a charter available (they all were making too much money leading dive parties).

Humm. Too little time, too big distances and too many places in the middle of nowhere. You will need a lot of organization: the flights thing and inter-island ferries. Hotels are not a big deal if you are not the kind of person who only sleeps in the Ritz or Hilton. The internet may help you (the travel agencies will stab you: 10%, 20% of the price). And don't forget the vaccines. I'll be going to China in autumn (3 months or so)

You also probably will want to check about malaria prophylaxis.

Thanks for all the input.  I have put out some feelers to several Charter Boat companies.  There was a Cruise liine that offered a trip similar to what I am proposing, and I thought it was a 3 week cruise.  But I'll get a time line for boat travel, and by air.  I'll take a look at the tour company above, and see what I can come up with.  I like the idea of flying to Pearl, then flying to Aus/NZ/Fiji and going from there by boat.

Please keep your questions and comments coming.  I would like to know some "Must See" detinations as well as "would like to see" places.

Thanks again!
