Hi,

The result from Usenet's war-historical ng is in :

Wargame of the Year 2006 : Conquest of the Aegean
2nd place : Birth of America
3rd place : TOAW III

Congrats to everyone involved with this game.

Impressive for a game to still be appearing in this kind of list eight years after it first topped it.

Yeah, I second that. Considering the quality of wargames released last year, achieving Bronze is not that bad indeed.

yes but it is a very diverse game and itsa longevity is evident in this forum and the one at SZO. proves the point that games do not have to be all glitzy and pretty

I'm ecstatic to have made Bronze, there were a lot of great games released, so it's fantastic to make that list.

I don't know how many people hang out on CSIPGW-H, but it's a very tough crowd over there.

Depth of experience beats glitz every time. Nothing against nice looking games as long as they have depth.

Best wishes,

give me depth over glitz anytime.  I'm not tired of TOAW yet....and I've been doing it for years, and still learning how to play it.  Buzz is giving me a run for my money in FitE.

What 'glitzy and pretty' wargames is TAOW3 supposed to have beat into 3rd then?  I think I missed them.

Hey, it is pretty!

I also prefer depth over glitz. I've never been a fan of fancy 3D "shoot'em all" type games, there's nothing more exciting than pushing counters over a map... and TOAWIII has the flexibility to let them be square counters

Thanks all, for the compliments, support, recognition, and yes...purchases of TOAW III. It can truly be stated that without the efforts of the TOAW community over the past several years, and their undying support of the game, TOAW III would still be but a dream, and TOAW IV, just a cruel joke.

Ooooh - now you've hurt my feelings - you know we're all super-sensitive sweethearts over there
<ambush set>
Why don't you come on over to discuss this some more with the group - maybe we can hold another election
<bait set>
See your there soon !
<lock 'n load>

Seriously : war-historical got it's bad reputation because of ... uh ... well basically because of the crowd that hangs out there - a bunch of highly opinionated grogs on an unmoderated forum : no need for further explanations needed me thinks.

Congrats on your third spot - in a year that saw games like Conquest of the Aegean and Birth of America it was basically a fight for third place and you guys got it.

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

Good job, I bought the 3rd installment simply because I was happy to see work on it again. There really aren't that many other games out there that compare.

Take Command 2nd Manassas was fourth - for a real wargame it's very pretty. Glitz = new ability to create maps
