Ah, having spotted the video on the public ftp server - THAT BoB2!

I hope any subsequent development is compatible with the previous release.  Good game, but I won't buy it twice.

I have subscribed twice and never yet seen a newletter. I think this 'newsletter' bit is an inside joke at Matrix like the Loch Ness monster or Bigfoot.

It doesn't exist

If people pop over to shockwave productions, or to simhq.com, you'll see all about the game. It was heavily built on top of the original engine of the Rowan simulation. The release intially had some problems, partly because shockwave were so ambitious and had to build on top of a pre-existing engine. They are also extremely good at customer support, and the problems were soon ironed out. It's now considered very stable and an extrememly good and respected flight simulator and wargame combo. It has full implimentation of Track IR 6 DOF, and shockwave are a company who also produce many respected add-ons for MS Flight Simulator. They are especially well known for the quality of their flight models, their good graphics, attention to detail and also REALLY cool explosions! Also, they're friendly and many initially worked on the project voluntarily during the course of improving the original game, and so have a lot of experience, as well as being fans themselves.

Matrix have made a brilliant partnership (again!)

When yah gonna make a WWI Flight (not simulation) wargame? ;) Why is WWI so overlooked? I really miss "Eagles" by SSI. It won't work on my PC, it requires Commodore 64 Dos Emulation and darn if I can figure out how to use the damn thing. I need an Emulator where you just point to the program and it runs. ;) I'm too old to play around with programming anymore though in my younger days I would write code from a book into the computer in basic. lol I wrote umpteen jillion autobat and configsys files back in the days when every game needed a different setup to run. Now I'm lazy I want everything to work at the click of a button. ;)

We can't have bought the same game.
I persevered up to patch 2.01 and It still barely worked. Never have i known more disappointment from a game . I remeber deciding to upgrade my graphics card just to get the game running.
It wasn't worth it.
When I was able to get a few  flights out of it , it really was just BOB 1 updated slightly.
Widely slated on release it was unfortunately deservedly so.. despite programmers trying very hard to iron out the bugs.
Anyone considering purchasing make sure you have the specifications and do read the forums first.

I do hate to rag but it was a stinker.
I don't mind buying games that I don't get on with and don't play.That's my fault. { Galactic Civ 2 .. I knew I wouldn't like it .. I didn't like GS1 .. what was I thinking!!  }

But a faulty product gets no sympathy.

I just installed 2.04 yesterday and have been doing the training flights. Seems stable so far; I have had no crashes or glitches. I cannot compare with with original BOB since I did not have it; it may be the same. But to me the graphics seem fine for '06 - and have not added the extra mods. The TIR with 6DOF works well (I love being able to open the canopy and and stick my head out when taxiing!). The British voice acting fits well with the accents of the period and adds to the immersion.

While I am a huge admirer of Il2 series, this sim seems very impressive so far - and I have not even touched the campaign game.

I probably sound like a fanboy, but with only a day's play I have not reached that rank yet...

Never had any trouble with it.. and I don't recall the "widely slated" either, if anything quite the opposite.

Erm.. because I have the previous release of BoB 2, and wouldn't mind trying any further patches or updates without having to fork out again?

From the Shockwave forums it looks as if Matrix will be distributing the 2.04 patched version via DD...so will be a "standard" version. So we can look forward to patch 2.05 (which I understand is not far off).

You may be right. I did a quick check on the 18 reviewed sites with ratings and the games merited 7.3 / 10 overall . Which is hardly terrible.

However  read the GMX forum . It still seems you need V.Good hardwear to get a game.

I'm sure Matrix will have a demo so it can be tested anyway.

You do, but at the end of the day it's a reasonably realistic flight simulator with some decent graphics (the planes are better than the scenery) and literally hundreds of aircraft in the sky at one time. That sort of software requires mid-range hardware as a minimum, no way around it.
