Af1352pasha -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (11/22/2018 7:29:51 AM)

give us some feedback about map making and its necessary software?

22sec -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (11/22/2018 12:53:27 PM)

Map making takes time. The data that is necessary is readily available, but putting it all together for the game to use in a manner which looks good in-game and works with the gameís mechanics take time. Also, putting some map making tips together takes time, and there is just never enough time in the day - Iím trying.

As far as tools go, the in-game map editor has been a great addition. However, you need to put pieces together before getting to that point. Youíll need a program such as GIMP or Photoshop, and you will also need a program if youíre working with digital data. I prefer Global Mapper, but I think QGIS would work as well.

Youíve got to make sure the data you are working with is projected at 30m per pixel.

Same here...I'd love to start working on some map ideas but I really need some kind of first steps guide...I will pick up from there

exsonic01 -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/1/2018 6:22:48 PM)

Just finished a game on approach ground to Goslar, it was interesting ground.

This is the east of Goslar, meeting engagement game.

Looks like wide open field, but small hills and shallow valleys made this ground more interesting.

Fierce battle between T-80BVs and Challenger / Chieftains.

Their push was dangerous, that river valley was good approaching route for T-80BVs, minimized exposure against ATGMs. Fortunately, my Chieftains came to rescue.

Game finished as draw.

Looks like a good map, great work. I will see if I can report anything in Goslar region in the future.

exsonic01 -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/3/2018 2:44:29 PM)

I found some rocky fields and rocky mountains around the high grounds surrounding Goslar. They are regarded as impossible terrain. Is this OK to have this amount of rocky mountains?

Are these the rocky slopes you are referring to? Those are generated by the game to represent steep slopes. I know there is a quarry east of Goslar that is rough terrain as well, but it surrounded by dirt track.

Oh, OK, then they should be good. I was just thinking, those high grounds would be one of the priority to take for both sides. I didn't know game automatically generate the no-go zone based on height, good to catch that.

22sec -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/3/2018 5:19:40 PM)

Itís based on change in elevation, so a steep slope is impassable to vehicles.

22sec -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/6/2018 10:27:06 PM)

Alpha version 0.2 now available in first post. Northern half of map is now complete.

22sec -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/10/2018 10:02:01 PM)

I am almost finished with the beta version of the map. I have just the bottom half of the southeast quadrant left to complete. Hopefully in the next couple of days I will get it uploaded.

22sec -> RE: Goslar/Salzgitter Map (12/12/2018 10:57:25 PM)

Hopefully will have the beta ready tomorrow. Until then enjoy some screenshots....
