Mark Clark -> Crashes (2/18/2013 3:28:55 PM)

I have experienced frequent crashes, always when loading saves. This was annoying but workable in that I knew how to get around it.

Now I have a new problem. A game that was (finally) going reasonably well for me, when the AI gets to a certain point (always the same point), it crashes. I cannot play further into this game unless I can find a way to get around this.

Any ideas?

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 3:37:47 PM)

OK, this is really a game-breaker, if ever the phrase "unplayable" applied, it does now.

Rasputitsa -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 4:30:06 PM)

If anyone is going to be able to help, you will have to give more information.

What game version
Which scenario
Which nations are you playing
What 'certain point' causes the failure

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 4:54:45 PM)

GD, I click "turn finished" as USSR, it does events and supply, then the germans attack a Russian air unit, right after that attack, crash.  Every time, same point.

Rasputitsa -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 5:53:06 PM)

Which game version are you using ?

I see you are persevering with GD, my experience with Fall Gelb is better, which others have also said. I am not saying it is perfect, but you may get a better game with some of the other scenarios, as you are certainly not getting much out of GD.

gwgardner -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 6:49:54 PM)

load your autosave file instead of your game save, see if it makes a difference.

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 7:41:52 PM)

Do you think this is scenario-related?

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 7:42:32 PM)

No difference, tried both several times over.  Also restarted.  Also reverted to older version of game.  Same result every time.

I don't know if this particular problem is scenario related, but some of the reported errors are caused by faults in specific scenarios. Have you tried any of the other scenarios and do they give the same problems ?

gwgardner -> RE: Crashes (2/18/2013 11:57:09 PM)

in documents/my games/time of fury there is a file consoleout.txt. You can open it and check at the end of the file for an error. or you can send the file to Doomtrader along with a zip of the saved game folder.

then quit slamming your head against the wall, and try a different scenario

I was having a similar problem with crashes in v1.03 that made the game seem unplayable. I removed the entire game and loaded from the 1.01, then downloaded v1.04. I have just been told how to fix the air supply/rebase issue in 1.04. I still get an occasional crash, but am finding that by doing what is suggested here, and loading from the autosave file, I am able to continue for many turns on the GD scenario. This v1.04 seems to be working very well for me now. The game is now enjoyable, and I will move on to other scenarios now.

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/23/2013 8:33:17 PM)

Gave up on the last game, now it's happening again on the new game.

This is a SERIOUS problem.  It's not even been acknowledged, much less addressed.

Also, list the turn number and unit that is being attacked and hex coordinates.

You can also post a console out here.

All of the above will help.

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/23/2013 9:54:30 PM)

It's different every time but same scenario, playing allies, this time turn 3 (or after turn 3, as the AI starts turn 4).

This really has me spitting mad.  All the other problems are annoying but somehow managable.  But if I can't save a game and start later, then the game is truly just straight-up unplayable and this should either be fixed, pronto, or I should get a refund.  Totally unacceptable. Totally.  Yet no acknoweldgement from the developers.

doomtrader -> RE: Crashes (2/23/2013 9:57:30 PM)

The official 1.04 is on it's way to be released.

Are you saying that you have identified this problem and fixed it?

doomtrader -> RE: Crashes (2/23/2013 10:52:15 PM)

It's rather hard to identify this problem.
It will be much easier with having the same version on both sides.

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/24/2013 12:45:58 AM)

started yet another game and it's happening again on turn five.  This time I didn't even save, played straight through, crashed when I ended turn 5 and the AI started turn 6.  Restarted from autosave, same crash.

This is, frankly, outrageous.  The game is unplayable, period.

Either fix it or give me my money back.

doomtrader -> RE: Crashes (2/24/2013 12:57:11 AM)

Could you please send the autosave to:
doomtrader[at]wastelands-interactive.com

doomtrader -> RE: Crashes (2/24/2013 2:04:05 AM)

Please take a look at preferences.
If the box 'show naval actions' is noth marked, mark it.

Mark Clark -> RE: Crashes (2/24/2013 2:59:01 AM)

happened again with another new game.

I'm done.  hopeless waste of time.

Great concept and many great things in this game but if you can't play it past five turns, what's the point?

This is really a disgrace if you ask me.

Not that it was that expensive, but in terms of value for money, I got ZERO.  Wasted time AND money and I never finished a game.

it is and always has been checked

doomtrader -> RE: Crashes (2/24/2013 9:26:55 AM)

I have checked this on the build that currently has been delivered to Matrix.

Mark Clark,
I had a similar problem with saved games in an earlier version. Doomtrader suggested I check my "show naval actions" box to make sure it was checked yes. I found I had unchecked that box and that by checking it back on I no longer had the saved game crash problem. It would be nice if doomtrader fixed the programming so we can have the show naval actions box unchecked.

doomtrader -> RE: Check Doomtrader's Suggestion (2/24/2013 3:40:23 PM)

For sure we are gonna fix it.

Mark Clark -> RE: Check Doomtrader's Suggestion (2/24/2013 4:43:45 PM)

My "show naval actions" box IS checked and has never been unchecked.

This happened yet again.

The game doesn't work and the developers have no idea why not.

I am really furious.

Mark Clark,
That's too bad that your crash problems weren't solved by the show naval actions box being checked. I'm not sure what version you playing but I've decided well over a month ago to just put the game on the shelf and do other things while doomtrader gets us a more stable, less frustrating version to play. I can't get the editor to work and have gotten absolutely no help trying to overcome my problem. If I can't get the editor working on my computer then I won't be buying any further Wastelands products. Ironic that Strategic War in Europe is more playable with less frustrations, but it just isn't as interesting as the scale of ToF.
