Mark Clark -> Best patch? (2/8/2013 8:38:47 PM)

The air problem in 1.04 is a serious hang-up for me. Will I be better off reverting to 1.03? Or should I go back further?

Thanks

There are two fixes. You already applied the one to fix the rebasing problem. The other fix is more complex and means there are NO supply effects on air units. Maybe not a bad simplification - after all it is the air force.

For each of these sections in consts.ini that are less than 30, change the air related items back to no effect. In 1939 Grand Campaign, you also have to look at consts_Germany.ini.
ColumnShiftDuringAirCombat = 0 <-- this will be negative as supply decreases
AirStrikeModifier = 100 <-- this is less than 100 as supply decreases.

[UnitsPerformanceInRelationsToSupplyAt25]
EffectivityPenalty = 1
ActionPointsPenalty = 0
ColumnShiftDuringAirCombat = 0
AirStrikeModifier = 100
MaximumReplacementsForLandUnits = 75
MaximumReplacementsForAirUnits = 8

Thanks, but I'm not quite clear on what to do.

I'm in the data file in the GD scenario.

The data you are quoting already says that.  What should I change it to?  AirStrikeModifier to 0 and MaximumReplacementsForAirUnits to 10?

Mark Clark -> RE: Best patch? (2/8/2013 11:06:51 PM)

OK, I think I figured it out.

But my fighters are still getting shredded, even againts TACs??  Shouldn't FTRs be able to down TACs at will?

Not really. It is pretty streaky. Look at the technology level for each side.

I see it as TACAIR and strat having built in fighters because the game does not have an escort function.

Fighters defend against air attacks on tac bombers. If a defending fighter is in range, it will defend. You don't get free shots at tac bombers.

But I am doing my best to kill all FTR squadrons before I start going after TACs.

Curious.

So, I did what you said.  I went into "const.ini" in the GD scenario folder.  (And only the one in that folder.)

I changed all the "ColumnShiftDuringAirCombat" to zero, all the "AirStrikeModifier" to 100 and all the "MaximumReplacementsForAirUnits" to 10.

But I just tried to reinforce some bomber squadrons and it would only let me allow three steps.

So I must have left something out, no?  Any idea what?

Thanks.

Sorry - that one is MaximumReplacementsForAirUnits = 3. Need to change that as well at each supply level.

Mark Clark -> RE: Best patch? (2/10/2013 2:27:24 AM)

Will do, thanks.

Curious that it's 3 and not 10?  I though the numeric value was what it allowed?  So that if you set the value at 10, it would allow a 10 step reinforcement?

rmonical -> RE: Best patch? (2/10/2013 3:20:00 AM)

Yes. Do it for each supply level.... I just picked one of the levels. It goes down as supply goes down.

As well a the scenario 'const' file there are also 'const' files for the nations (e.g. const-germany) which can contain different settings for the same features to be applied for those nations, that gives a lot of flexibility in how you set up the game.

Each game save file contains copies of the national 'const' files, but not the main scenario 'const' file, so I guess if you are playing a saved game, any changes you make to the main const file may be overridden for particular nations depending what's in the national 'const' file held in the saved game folder.[:)]
