Arlington, VT, January 25, 2013 – Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com), Slitherine (www.slitherine.com), and Western Civilization Software (www.west-civ.com) are happy to announce the release of the v1.17 update for the critically-acclaimed World War 2 tactical wargame Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!

The v1.17 update contains numerous fixes as well as rule changes to keep the game balanced and in fit fighting form. The goal of this and recent updates has been to fully implement the Classic board game AP activation system, as well as adding a host of other features and improvements, including super high resolution 2D maps and counters. This update includes fixes for units low on APs not being able to fire during a group fire, as well as a fix for spent units attached to groups during a Command or CAPs action incorrectly becoming unspent. Additional tweaks include the pass action now finishing the activation of currently selected units in Classic AP mode.

The v1.17 update is comprehensive and will bring all versions of Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! to v1.17. To download the update, players can run “Check for Update” via the game menu or on the game’s download page.

About Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Set on the Eastern Front during Operation Barbarossa, Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! tasks players with commanding German or Russian forces between 1941-1942, complete with a historical roster of infantry, armor and artillery units. Players will be able to command the board while using either traditional chit-style graphics or 3D units, as well as either a flexible 3D camera view or top-down 2D view.

Wargamers will have to rely on realistic military tactics to win not only against the AI but also against human players using the in-game multiplayer server complete with a forum for matchmaking and a real-time chat lobby. Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! is loaded with scenarios, ten from original board game in “Awakening the Bear Firefights”, as well as 16 new scenarios along with a very flexible “point-buy” scenario on “Partisan Road”. Players will have a multitude of firefight to keep themselves busy, as well as a scenario and map editor to create more!

FYI, it looks like an external service we relied on for multiplayer has broken. We'll have a v1.18 hotfix release out next Monday to resolve that. In the meantime, our apologies for the multiplayer issue.

@Erik - does that mean, that whenever i connect to the lobby there will be ANYBODY else, except just me (with 1.18 hotfix)?
with beta 1.17 i'm just alone in the lobby... :-( or, am i doing something wrong here?

The lobby is often empty. You'll want to arrange your games ahead of time on the Facebook group or some other method. This error only surface when you try to host a game after selecting the firefight.
