How do subs work?

I put my German sub into the Channel. I could attack the British ships - although the odds stopped me from doing so. My sub was attacked by the British. However, my German surface ships could not attack the British sub?

Now I've finished the fun stuff (playing) I really think I should read the manual [8|] So my mistake was I tried to attack having moved in the same turn.

I have noticed that submarine attacks does not count into the kills needed for unlocking admirals. I have attacked convoy with sub(caused 1 damage) and the number of kills did not increase. Is this WAD?

Lukas -> RE: Submarines (11/20/2012 11:31:58 AM)

Submarine kills are counted, but not convoy losses (caused by any unit type). That's WAD, but in hindsight it might be better to change this.

Anyone developed a response yet to the British AI driven subs that invariably sneak into the Baltic and start sinking the uber-uber critical resource convoys from Sweden? Is there any sort of convoying system in-place? Even when I keep a German surface Fleet parked next to the Convoy during it's journey to Konigsberg it still seems to get schwacked?

If the sub is adjacent to any warship when it attacked you can counter attack the next turn. So it does stop them from attacking but it does come at a price. IIRC a sub costs 35 PP while the Swedish convoy carries 30PP. So losing 1 sub in exchange for 1 convoy is a not a good trade off.

Ok thanks. Does it matter if the escorting surface fleet is a Battleship fleet or cruiser fleet? Does the escorting fleet need to be adjacent to the sub when it decides to to fire at a convoy?
