el cid again -> Nelson BC and Nelson Base Force (11/5/2012 7:37:29 PM)

Nelson did not have an airport until after WWII.
For this reason, the Nelson Base Force should not exist - slot 6277 -
although there may well have been an RCMP detachment -
RCMP is notorious for its tiny detachments (and dispatch of
a single officer to handle major issues - the arrival of Sitting Bull
for example, with thousands of people).

Nelson itself - slot 1073 - IS near the location of a significant
hydro electric project - if you model power generation in your economic
system. But lacking a port or airfield, it should be a dot location.

Nelson Airport was begun in the 1930's but not completed until after WW2, but isnt there another airfield within the area represented by the hex at Castlegar?

Nelson was famous before WWI for some "hydro airplane" which flew there. But the airfield site itself
was only "begun in the 1930s" in the sense they started creating a place for it by doing a landfill. The
airfield began construction as such something like 1950 - according to the airfield official history.

Castelgar is quite a different hex - and I have added it - because of economic considerations. But
I have not been able to establish it had a developed airfield - only potentially could have.

In any case, there should not be a Nelson Base Force (never mind an RCMP Nelson Base Force)
with air support units in it. Not sure how that got into stock (and for that reason, presumably into
most mods)?

Most base forces are made up, providing some capability to operate a small number of aircraft.

I had another look at Castlegar (I would have it in the same hex), but was it an operational field in WW2?
