Rtwfreak....hmmm....this is more of a wargame than the total war series...which really is an rts for the masses rather than a wargame as such. A great game series yes..but not really a wargame.

Matrix\Slitherine specialise in wargames thats why graphics aren't the no1 thing here as I saw you wanted 3D units similiar to Panzer Corps in Command Ops which just wouldn't work at all.

You mention the graphics here...yet I dare say many here will say the graphics are very very good in this game. Finally this is an operational level wargame so thats why you don't see lots of little romans running around fighting each other.

Finally the immersion comes in through gameplay not visuals with this game...some games just don't need visuals to immerse the player. If you carry on buying Slitherine\Matrix games then you have to get into the wargame mindset and see graphics in a totally different light. This game does have great graphics...your just not looking at it from the right perspective. Think of a novel and a graphic novel...both have there place...a novel is no less immersive because it has no visual stimulas..just like a graphic novel can still tell a good story.

Rtwfreak -> RE: Must have! (10/2/2012 6:50:43 PM)

Didn't Matrixgames publish Tin Soldiers: Caesar & Alexander? Aren't those wargames? I could go for that type of graphics as well in a game like this. I think Slitherine did a minatures version as well and I guess I'm jaded towards those types of graphics. I spent plenty of years playing with cardboard counters an imagining little armies of men on the maps but once I got into minatures there was no turning back.

Agent S -> RE: Must have! (10/3/2012 11:42:33 AM)

Just got it...like it.
(would've said love it, but it runs a little slow with the bigger scenarios on my 'puter)

OK cool. Funny enough I've been looking at Tin Soldiers recently but the restricted Res puts me off.

Edit: Oops, wrong forum.

Fascist Dog -> RE: Must have! (10/4/2012 4:23:24 AM)

Very, VERY interested in picking this one up. The Late Republic/Roman Civil wars are a fantastic era for wargaming and it looks like this game really does the period justice.

Blind Sniper, let me know how you like it and I may try it out. $25 isn't that much money.

Ok, now I have played it a bit.

MAP
The map is very nice but I have problem to scroll the map with some zoom levels, moreover it is slow to load the menu, every menu.
I don't have the last top-notch computer but is a good one (see attach).

GAMEPLAY
Almost every scenario has a bug that can ruin a PBEM game, surely will be patched soon (Ageod support is great) but at the moment I'm waiting before to play my first PBEM.
Still don't know if movement and combat system are good or not because I don't like to play against AI, I just made some turns but nothing more.

I believe AJE can be a very good game and with this price is a bargain but at the moment is still better ACW (IMHO).

For Scrolling issue at minimum zoom level, try to uncheck BordersOnMap option in MainMenu/Options ingame.

Bohémond (AJE Team).

Your CPU speed is very slow. The again notebooks and laptops just aren't really built for gaming..

Wodin - you are talking about a quad i7 being slow ?? HP is excretment but ...

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-720QM-Notebook-Processor.23035.0.html

This is more likely graphics requirement (unoptimised code) & capability rather than cpu.

[edit]And given AEGOD haven't optimised it yet ... but isn't it based on engines which have similar issues ?

Aces8 -> RE: Must have! (10/6/2012 6:44:53 AM)

It seems to me like none of the AGEOD games are optimized this is an issue with all their games.

It works! Thanks Bohémond, my fault missing the setting. [:)]

I would say the opposite.

Here you are right but I'm not playing the last FPS although.

I don't think the HP Envy 17 is an excrement either but it is your call.
Anyhow I have the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 as video card, again it is old but not so old!

wodin -> RE: Must have! (10/6/2012 6:05:50 PM)

Your CPU is 1.6 ghz and quad core, but more cores doesn't mean anything with this game which means your core speed is 1.6ghz..most desktops are around 3.0ghz plus and have more than one core aswell but again extra cores means nothing if the software doesn't use them. Your always better buying less cores at a higher clock speed than the opposite.

Mobility graphic cards are nowhere near as good as their desktop cousins...

Personally I'd never buy a notebook\laptop to play any games. For starters your paying more for the laptop with worse specs than what you could get a desktop for.

I'd go if I had the money, tablet for portability and desktop for gaming.

Blind Sniper -> RE: Must have! (10/6/2012 8:29:35 PM)

I never said to have bought this laptop for gamimg purpose, in fact I never spent money to buy a computer for games (only).

Back to the topic, looking the product requirements I stil don't see how my CPU can be very slow.

Chliperic -> RE: Must have! (10/6/2012 9:59:17 PM)

Your CPU is the same I had in my Asus G73 one year ago. Asus G73 is a gaming laptop, that ran at hightest settings Shogun 2, New Vegas and other intensive 3D games well. For strategy games, any laptop with at least a Core 2 and a real gfx will run fine. AJE runs fine on my wife laptop, dating back from 2008 with a ATI 3470 and a very old Core 2. Your HP is able to run AJE without a hitch.

henri51 -> RE: Must have! (10/7/2012 3:10:26 PM)

As mentioned elsewhere, turn off area borders in the game preferences and try lowering the resolution.Even with high-end systems, zooming all the way out with borders on can slow scrolling down, but doing the above make it lightning fast.
