Onime No Kyo -> RE: OT Stuff (8/13/2012 7:46:55 PM)

Awesome! Thank you!!! [&o][&o][&o]

Looks like the cowling is bolted on. Where are the access panels? [X(]

Dixie -> RE: OT Stuff (8/13/2012 8:02:40 PM)

Here they are. The top panel and two of the side panels anyway. The chin panel and carb intake panel are on some shelves. The top panel is around 6' in length.

mmmmmm. Griffon!!!

There are 2 flying Spitfires at the Temora museum in NSW.

A Mk VIII and a Mk XVI

Its amazing the difference between the classic RR Merlin of the Mk VIII and the Packard Merlin of the Mk XVI.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: OT Stuff (8/14/2012 6:01:15 PM)

That's the Mk21 that 'belongs' to 1 Sqn. It was being looked after by BBMF.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: OT Stuff (8/15/2012 6:58:32 PM)

Oh that one. I say you paint it pink with Hello kitty nose art. [:D]

It's going for a respray this week, by professional painters. It's like they want it done properly or something? She's only a few million away from flying again! [:D] Still there's a cracking panel under the tailplane that someone has manufactured [:D]

Dixie -> RE: OT Stuff (9/13/2012 5:31:09 PM)

Spitfire LFIXe MK356 waits in the shade at RAF Odiham, poised for her chance to leap into the sky!

http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/theaircraft/spitfiremk356.cfm

Here is a bit about the history of the plane. Funny I finnished just reading a book containing some of George Ockenden's description of the battles he participated in later in the normandy campaign.

Spitfire TE311 is a low-back/bubble-canopy Mk XVI with ‘clipped’ wingtips. Some 58 years after it last flew, TE311 will be back in the air in 2012, having undergone a painstaking re-build to flying condition by BBMF technicians, which was started in October 2001.

11 years??? u guys have to much fun posing for photoes and too little work being done.[:'(] Painstaking... doesnt sound like how u descripe ur work Dixie [;)]

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Don't blame me, I wasn't even in the RAF 11 years ago! [:D] Plus I spent the last 8 working on large aircraft. [;)]

Be careful. Don't get sun stroke.[8D]

Dixie -> RE: BBMF (9/14/2012 8:51:12 PM)

And as a special treat, TE311's first engine run since 1968.
