A category for landing craft is in the editor, but not in WPO, another example of the games WitP roots. The developer did say years back he wanted to add LCs to the game, however.

Have you playtested them? Do they result in fewer casualties?

Interesting that after a quick glance at Wikipedia it seems like the Japanese and British were pioneering LCs back in the 1920s, the USA didn't catch up until the 1930s. The British even had a Motor Landing Craft, which was designed to land tanks. I guess their interest in the topic is understandable considering what happened at Gallipoli.

Play testing is in progress,early findings are LCI's appear in game fine thats a good thing,down side is when I create a taskforce,the cargo & load troops options a grey out,I'm trying to find an answer to the problem,but like a few things with the game it's frustrating and annoying!

kirk23 -> RE: LANDING CRAFT (6/16/2012 2:50:35 PM)

I have play tested some more with LCI task forces and the problem of greyed out options remains,but I have solved the problem with a work around tactic,when you create Transport or Amphibious Task forces, include within the task force 1 AK or AP then add the LCI and the task force can now load Troops & supplies as per normal,I think the added AK or AP acts like a mother ship for the taskforce anyway the tactic works,plus regarding your question on casualties when landing on a beach,well the losses are indeed reduced by a long way.

Although the USA were a bit slow to use LCI's, I have given the USA these Higgins boats to use in game,they are out of there time but why let this little fact change anything,the desingers of the game have done it many times already,so if they can well so can I.[;)]

Screen shot showing Computer generated Transport taskforce using the new LCI's[8D]

German Uboat targets one off the new USA LCI Higgens boat.[;)]

Are there any gamers out there who would like to see these LCI's added to the stock scenario's ?[&:]

Connfire -> RE: LANDING CRAFT (6/17/2012 2:29:44 AM)

I wouldn't mind, if they were added, though I do wonder how the boats will get to landing zones. I imagine they have low endurance. I wonder if there's a way of adapting AKs or APs as a "mother ship" that can carry them there? Supposedly the WPO and original WitP editors are one and the same, how does the other game do it?

Just remember amphibious landings were still in their infancy, so I don't think there'd be huge numbers of these things like there was in WWII.

kirk23 -> RE: LANDING CRAFT (6/17/2012 3:41:14 AM)

Endurance is not a problem in game,I assume the supporting ships in the taskforce's are replenishing the LCI's,as for numbers involved the British built over 200 during WW1.

kirk23 -> RE: LANDING CRAFT (6/17/2012 11:41:57 AM)

This link is for the expanded version of CASTLES OF STEEL scenario,it adds the LCIs to the game.[;)]
