wodin -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 3:34:40 PM)

Is this all the games that are going to be announced or is there more?

KEYSTONE07950 -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 3:57:10 PM)

I'm sure many people worked long and hard on these games. But......... I'm underwhelmed.

Where is the new Panzer Command? Where is the new Command Ops? Where is Storms of Steel and Price of Honor for COH? Where is there something for wargamers?

Erik Rutins -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 4:22:02 PM)

There are other releases planned for the year, but these are the new releases we were ready to announce at the press event.

There should be news on Storm of Steel later.

On Panzer Command, we're finishing up a new update and a new demo - the next release is still in the planning stages so not ready for announcement.

Regarding being underwhelmed - I think once you see some more info on these releases rather than just titles, that may change. [8D]

danlongman -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 4:47:26 PM)

I love new stuff. My tastes morph over time so I never know what I might want next year.
This is all great news. More toys!!!
Some people just do not know how to be happy.
What no Panzer Naked Supermodels?????!!! Waaaaa!!!

gids -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 6:03:46 PM)

Me too. However I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing as I trawl the net everyday looking for new wargames in development or hinted at that may come to the Slitherine\Matrix stable and come up empty.

It's the lack of original, innovative new wargames that disappoints. I'm not talking just here but everywhere.

... and you can determine this from titles? I'm sorry, but given what has already been announced, what was announced today and what I know is still in the works, I think your tune is likely to change if you give each of these a good look.

Regards,

- Erik

Interesting list, Erik. I'm still from Missouri on tablets and non-PC hardware, but it's been predicted for awhile now so we'll see how it goes demand-wise.

Let me echo what are probably coming posts from The Most Active Forum on MatrixGames (tm) [:)]--any chance of a WITP2 this decade? Come on over to the AE forum. Lots of folks will discuss pricing elasticities with you. Also first-borns. [;)]

Josh -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 11:40:45 PM)

Well for what it's worth I think the list is *most* impressive, I never saw this coming and I'm glad Victor (AT and DC games) is mentioned here also. I find his games most appealing.
Heck more games than I'll be able to play in my lifetime that's for sure.

Terminus -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/23/2012 11:51:01 PM)

No more WitP, for Thread's sake! Let it die!

Grim.Reaper -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 12:46:54 AM)

Nice to know what new might be coming, but will this event provide better clues to release of games already listed on this site such as Brother Against Brother, Lock/Load, and World in Flames?

Some of us want it. You don't have to work on it, T.

Monster games are passé. Stop beating this dead moose already.

Erik most of the new titles are either games being made on a different format or sequels to games already out. Thats what I ment. I count three games in the list that are new games. Sov, Legends and Pandora. The rest are to me more of the same and I have no interest in nor can I get excited about them (except maybe Vics game, again it's a sequel and something we already knew about). For the last year or more I feel it's been pretty barren as far as great NEW wargames go. I'm talking about new games i.e not remakes\expansions or re imaginings.

This isn't a dig at Slitherine\Matrix at all. You can't magic wargame developers out of thin air. It's more a case of searching the net for new games in this genre and not really finding anything. I have read Command Naval\Airwarfare are looking for publishers. Now that would be something thats lacking here, we have Harpoon but a new Naval game would fit very well into your stable of games.

Please, no, not this decade! I need to retire first! [:D]

But, please by next decade??? [&o]

And yet they sell like hotcakes. What are you, some kind of anti-capitalist socialist?! [:)]

WITP2 is half done already. It needs a different sort of team than AE had, but the bones are already there.

Blacksheep -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 3:53:58 AM)

I agree with the Moose. I've bought a number of Matrix games but I keep going back to the Pac War/UV/WITP/AE line. It's probably the finest war game ever made and can be made even better!! Of course I wouldn't mind seeing someone try their hand at CNA[:'(]

Ditto

IMHO there are growing markets for large (or monster) strategy games with emphasis on historical accuracy.

Get a new "Game engine", not a rebore of an old one, and be the best on the block, not just "another game company"

I second Blacksheep's CNA and add a Div level Western Front WW2 but not on the WITE engine.

New Game engines is what we want. Not mediocre ones or budget ones either. Top draw new games that become up there as all time classics. Thats what I want to see. I'm still waiting on a new classic tactical game. We've had two classic monster games and a classic operational game from Matrix, no classic tactical game yet though.

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 8:40:05 AM)

Day Two has begun! Iain McNeil is talking about Close Combat and it's history.

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 8:46:28 AM)

Number of squads to control in Close Combat: Panthers in the Fog has been upped to a total of 21 squads, with sizes up to ten men!

With Slitherine acquiring the Close Combat license, this will be the last Close Combat on the original engine, with a new Close Combat coming out in the near future utilizing a new engine.

The graphical detail in Panthers in the Fog has been updated to 32-bit, with an improved UI as well, along with Slitherine's integrated multiplayer lobbies.

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 8:55:25 AM)

Iain McNeil announced that the new Close Combat will be using the Unity engine, moving the series into 3D, while still retaining the essence of the game, while improving gameplay such as the LOS detail. Projected release is 2013, with a release on both the Mac and PC. In the not-too-distant future the series will move to the iPad tablet.

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 9:00:29 AM)

Close Combat: Panthers in the Fog will be coming out Q4 2012, announced by Iain McNeil.

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 9:03:30 AM)

Commander: The Great War about to be presented by Tim from the Lordz Games Studio!

Scott Parrino -> RE: New Titles Announced for 2012 (4/24/2012 9:08:07 AM)

Commander: The Great War will use a new engine, which will be easy to port to other platforms such as the iPad. The engine will also allow the Lordz Games Studio to introduce new content easily.

It will have an in-game tutorial to help introduce players to the game.
