Agent S -> [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 3:35:20 AM)

Necessary Changes.
I noticed that the port and depot symbols were not displaying, so a few tweaks later and...
You will need to replace both the appearance.txt file and the others.png file into the appropriate gfx folder.
[edit] I will be updating all the Agent Mod maps over the christmas holidays. To get them a little smoother, cleaner. Comments and suggestions for each flavour welcomed.

Here is the zip file containing the appearance and image files.

Flaviusx -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 3:46:42 AM)

Nice changes, this was my second favorite map skin even before the fix.

Agent S -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 5:08:24 AM)

[:)]
what do I need to do, to make it your 1st favourite?

Flaviusx -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 6:28:40 AM)

Maybe nothing. I've switched over to it after downloading this latest patch. I also like the normal skin, but this is cleaner map.

gwgardner -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 2:19:41 PM)

sweet improvement to my favorite map style. MSS cities really stand out now, and the cloud symbol now adds realism to the feel of the game. Thanks much.

Rasputitsa -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/10/2011 4:06:09 PM)

Yup, my favourite too, thanks for the update. [:)]

Wolfe -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/11/2011 2:05:54 PM)

Agent S - really like your map skins especially the Modern one.

One thing I have noticed however (in all cases with the map skin updates applied, don't know if it also applies to the originals) is that the graphic for Rough/Raining and Plains/Raining look identical (e.g. in the Grand Campaign hexs 84,99 and 85,99) when using Agent 1,2 and 4 skins.

Razz -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/12/2011 12:03:46 AM)

This is my map choice too.

I like using the diplomacy view which distorts allot of the visibility on how to move air units. It was better before hand but changed in beta for the worse.

The red could be brighter (not darker) when looking for bomber attacks. Recon view is not acceptable.

Would be nice to add the blue plane icon or one that is better when trying to see where to recon. I can live with the lightly colored target hexes if I have to.

If you can improve the recon for the next patch that would be great!

Agent S -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod (12/12/2011 12:04:55 AM)

Thanks Wolfe, added to the fix/tweak list.
When making the terrain files, there was a subtle distinction, but perhaps once in the game, there was not a significant difference.
The clouds on may help until I try something else.
...
Just checked the terrain tiles .png.
There is a difference, but the colour palette is similar.
Will try roughening it up a little.

Agent S -> [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/13/2011 7:05:51 AM)

Started dabbling with the eyecandies.
Will start by placing country labels in.
any thoughts on font? modern, (helvetica, gill sans etc.) or traditional, (times roman, old typewriter etc) Colour? Size.
keeping in mind it's on the map and can't be turned off with an fn-key.

[image]local://upfiles/26546/286607EBF8B04A06BF82016CB9A750FD.jpg[/image]
In terms of appearance, it sits above terrain graphics, (as seen in pic) but under the units, so as to not obscure info.

Wolfe -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/13/2011 11:52:42 PM)

Like the font in the example - but please don't use England as the country name, use Great Britain, even though I'm Northern Irish and this still leaves me out it is nearer to common parlance for the time and saves you having to also name Wales and Scotland on the map to avoid irritating the other Home Nationals [:)]

Having said that I have a slight concern that adding country names to the map may without really adding any useful information (with the possible exception of diplomacy) make it look cluttered and potentially spoil the very clean design you have come up with both for map and units. I may be wrong though.

Agent S -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/13/2011 11:56:43 PM)

[:)]
No problem. Started with Great Britain, but as an Aussie, I'm wondering whether it's still 'great'.
[:'(]

Wolfe -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/14/2011 12:08:24 AM)

It was then, we still had an empire, although we had already gotten rid of some of the unruly antipodean islands by that time [:'(]

dlazov66 -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/14/2011 1:07:48 AM)

Can you give a brief example of how or what eye candy is for?

It was in 1939 !!!

I am against fancy text as it is hard to see.

refer to post#14
or
open my thread on eyecandies...
or
open the eyecandies.png file in the wastelands map skins.

Agent S -> RE: [Agent] Modern Map Skin Mod + Candies (12/14/2011 5:47:06 AM)

Razz will probably go for a gill sans look. clean and simple.
A favourite font style. A little earlier than WW2, but something I associate with 30's England.
Will post an example.

Agent S -> Beach Front Real Estate (12/18/2011 11:00:43 PM)

Okay so I have trapsed around every coastal hex on the map to see if it could be invaded.
Here is the result.

Agent S -> RE: Beach Front Real Estate (12/18/2011 11:04:14 PM)

and a zoomed out view.
Still some tweaks to get right on the country labels.
I went with subtle for this map skin, but other flavours will have a different graphic response.
Primarily I still wanted the basic terrain to be visible, with a hint of beach (40% transparency).

Agent S -> When? (12/18/2011 11:06:19 PM)

Will post up the mod file and install instructions soon.
It will require a tweak to the eyecandies.csv file in the grand campaign scenario folder, as well as the usual graphic replacements.

Agent S -> RE: When? (12/19/2011 12:06:20 AM)

Busted. Somehow no units showing unless in movement.
must have wrecked the sprites depth... but its happening on ALL scenarios, which is odd.
(and its not the map draw mode; checked that.)

Agent S -> Beach (Invasion) Hex Mod. (12/20/2011 11:00:42 PM)

It's good to go.
Here are the instructions.
1. In the ...data\scenarios\1939 Grand Campaign Folder rename the eyecandies.csv file to eyecandies-old.txt To create a backup.
2. Download the eyecandies.csv file from this post, (it is zipped) and place into the same folder.
3. Download the map-update.zip file from the post below and place into (overwrite) the files in the ...data\gfx\ [MapSkin]Agent-4(Modern) folder. (The file being replaced is the sprites_depth.csv and adding an eyecandies.png to the folder).
4. Start the game and open the 1939 Grand Campaign Scenario. You should see Country Names on the Map and Beach hexes as shown below.

Agent S -> RE: Beach (Invasion) Hex Mod. (12/20/2011 11:01:05 PM)

This post contains the altered graphics file.
