Bletchley_Geek -> BftB Community Scenarios Index (11/24/2011 12:36:46 PM)

I think people will find useful to have an index of the few - yet excellent - scenarios created by the BftB community. These scenarios, the stock Bulge scenarios and the soon to come HttR scenario conversions showcase the awesome potential of this engine. So guys, just start spreading the word!

pcelt -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/24/2011 3:30:17 PM)

Im not familiar with the battles in the area and may be displaying gross ignorance but why does the U.S force seem to field no battalion HQs but use Regimetal HQs which directly control 9 or so Companies.

Can Sweeteye or anyone else clatify this for me
Thanks

I think you should ask in another thread [:)] I guess you're referring to the "Stabilizing the XII Corps MLR" scenario, aren't you?

I've read in several places - but I wouldn't say there's an unanimous position on that - that in the US Army, the operational unit of maneuver was the Regiment, Battalion being mostly an organization that basically existed on paper, so I wasn't that much surprised.

From a purely BftB standpoint I would say that while possibly historically accurate, it makes the US Army ahistorically rigid. Battalion HQ's could account for the kind of ad-hoc commands - Task Forces - the US Army created during operations for concrete goals and then disbanded.

Bletchley_Geek -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/24/2011 3:53:02 PM)

I need to add to the above that the ability of creating ad-hoc commands is already in the game... by group selecting some units and assigning to them a mission. Obviously, a company staff might not be up to the task of organizing operations of the same complexity as those a battalion or regimental staff would be able to manage efficiently.

In game terms, playing with Realistic C2 rule would mean that while you'd be able to make do without Battalion HQ's, you might suffer severe penalties.

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/24/2011 4:13:03 PM)

I am glad you pointed this out pcelt...The best explanation I have for this is that I set up the OOB from the information I had to go by from what I found in my sources off of the internet. The information may need to be adjusted. I will look into this before I re release the scenarios for the new patch. At the moment I am unable to get the patch and make the changes needed to have the scenarios work. As soon as I can I will look into putting Battalion HQs into the OOB. Thanks again .....[:)] Also thanks for posting the scenario list Bletchley...Good idea... Hope this is not the wrong place to answer the question.....

pcelt -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/24/2011 4:19:48 PM)

Thanks very much Bletchley and Sweeteye for your swift and constructive replies---and thanks also for all your excellent work in developing the scenario range of the game.
Cheers

Bletchley_Geek -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/24/2011 4:29:29 PM)

Well, I found the reference, for those interested.

FM 100-5, 1944 OPERATIONS
http://cgsc.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p4013coll9/id/30/rec/3

In Chapter 15, US formations are discussed, and here are a couple parts which might shed some light. On the topic of Infantry divisions organization, I found on page 297, paragraph #1011

quote:

1011. Three regiments of infantry and four battalions of Field Artillery comprise the major combat elements.[...]

which contrasts with the detailed description of and rationale about the organization of Armored Divisions, found on page 305, paragraph #1038:

quote:

1038. The armored division is organized for flexibility in the formation of combat teams. The self-contained battalion is the basic unit. The division consists of a headquarters, two combat commands, a reserve command, a cavalry mechanized reconnaissance squadron, three tank battalions, three infantry armored battalions, the division artillery consisting of a headquarters and three armored field artillery battalions, and armored engineer battalion, and signal and service troops. Units are attached to the two combat commands in the type and number desired for a particular operation.

No problem sweeteye :) And discussion is welcomed, though I doubted that you were subscribed to this thread (so making less probable that you'd get wind of pcelt question) ;)

pcelt -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/26/2011 11:40:19 PM)

Sweeteye Re "Stabilisation......" scenario----I have now realised that the German OOB is also organised without battalion level HQs.
So it might in fact be best to leave the setup as is and then both commanders would need to make decisions re forming different sorts of ad hoc task groups for various types of tasks.
This would make for an extra dimension of decision-making within that scenario--quite like that variation.
What do you think?

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/27/2011 2:43:55 AM)

Yes it is probably best to leave the OOB as it is. If someone really wanted to make changes it would be easy enough for them to do themselves if they wanted to. I myself think the scenario is alright the way it is.[:)]

What about the US support platoons? I didn't see the usual Mortar Plts, etc.

Besides that, I concur with pcelt that not having Battalion HQ's is a good idea [:)]

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/28/2011 10:48:49 AM)

Oh yes...sorry...I seem to not be thinking clearly and posting too quickly....the supporting units do need to be included...I am going to try and get to looking at the MLR OOB and put in the needed units..Have been kind of sidetracked over this Thanksgiving weekend....I do like to go with what other players suggest as it does make the scenarios improve in quality.

If you feel you need help with this, just let me know [:)] I guess that developing that Operation Nordwing scenario is helding you back.

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (11/28/2011 1:13:01 PM)

Thanks for the offer.....Actually I have the NordWind scenarios done. It is just a matter of taking out the AT platoons from most of the scenarios which will be very quick to do. The MLR scenario is going to take a bit more time..I was just looking at it this A.M. I am going to have to take the appropriate units from the Nancy Scenario and put them in the MLR scenario. Some other regiments are going to have to be fixed up in a different manner. Kind of "by hand" you might say. Them I am going to have to replace them on the map ... some as reinforcements. Going to have recount the overall strengths of both sides and reset the victory points..Also have to remember to take out the Battalion HQs.Should be able to get started on it this evening..

Must finish all these daft maps I've started - anyone want a Burma "White City" Chindit stronghold scenario... Maybe i'll leave that one for later...

Will it be possible please to indicate (when done) which of these very good Community Scenarios have been updated to work with the new patch.
And again grateful thanks to all community battle creators for all their work broadening the scenario scope of this game.

All of them should "work" as in "load & play". The only change - as far as I know - that scenarios needed were to remove AT Platoons from US Army Battalions, since now these platoons guns are spread evenly amongst Battalion companies. Therefore, in unedited scenarios, US Army Battalions will have the double of AT guns they should (if they started at full strength).

I sent a corrected version of "Stabilizing..." to sweeteye, but I'm not sure he updated his thread.

Will go over the threads again.

pcelt -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (12/2/2011 3:41:20 PM)

Thanks BG---could be a brief window of opportunity to take on German armour with U.S. infantry AT guns---but even then perhaps not.........
Should have added you to my thankyou list in previous contri--very valuable to have someone drawing all the community threads together and checking upgrades/ compatibility etc.
Please feel added.......

With the AI... anything goes, right? [:D] For H2H play, yes, I think it's very necessary.

Actually the changes are very easy to do (I need to get some spare time to go over them all):

1. Open Scenario Editor
2. Load Scenario (.cog file)
3. Go to the OOB browser, hunt down those Bn AT Platoons and Delete them
4. Save Scenario as (whatever-no-AT-Plt.cog)

and then you're set. Depending on the scenario, it's about 5 minutes work or less. Just be careful about deleting something else besides those platoons :-)

Thank you, but really, the point of this thread was to make the sterling work of the scenario designers here more visible, so people can give them feedback and comments. If anything gets a scenario designer happy is to get comments (either praise or constructive criticism) because that means people are playing their scenarios and caring.

Arjuna should chime in here, but I think all the pre-patch user-scenarios may need to be ported over to us for some conversion work. This is related to the bug: Converted scenarios ensuring siteTask StartAt times were all valid ( ie = start time )

You should also change your reinforcement schedules to cater to the new 'Historical' slot, and perhaps add some variable reinforcement shedules to the standard slots. And also, put them in a 'My Scenarios' sub folder of 'Scenarios'.

And while I'm at it, I don't recommend designing scenarios without Bn HQ's. We went through a lot of trouble to provide you all with force list templates for scenario creation, I suggest you stick with those.[:)]

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (12/2/2011 8:10:56 PM)

Well folks, just wanted to state that I am completely stuck on fixing up my scenarios until I am able to join the members area.As Bletchley stated it is a very simple task to delete the 57mm AT platoons from the scenarios and re save them. My MLR scenario is the one that needs the most work done as I made the mistake of not using the stock unit structure and as a result there are no support units. After reading Simovichs' last post I see there is some other work that could be done on all of the user made scenarios. The scenario editor is very easy to work with, easiest one I have ever used. Also....I would be more than happy to help anyone with the scenario editor that needs help. Just PM me...

Hey sweet,

for some reason the forums weren't notifying me of posts on the thread.

I found the "Battle for Toul Bridgehead" and the "Pont a Mousson Bridgehead" scenarios, but for the Wingen-sur-Moder ones I can't find an specific thread. On the thread I'm linking already I see two Wingen scenarios, one covering the action from Jan 2nd to Jan 3rd, and then another "campaign one", covering the whole thing from Jan 2nd to Jan 7th. Could you point me into the right direction? :)

sweeteye -> RE: BftB Community Scenarios Index (Stabilising X11 Corps) (12/11/2011 6:28:46 PM)

The two Wingen mini scenarios are in the same Mini Scenarios thread as the Toul and Pont a Mousson scenarios. Sooner or later I will put all my scenarios in one thread.

Got it :)

Are they using the same map and estabs as the full-blown Nordwind scenarios, right?
