SailingGuy -> Last Man Standing [CLOSED] (8/8/2011 5:28:25 PM)

"Last Man Standing - Volume 1".

This game is not for the feint of heart. There can be only one winner. Alliances are allowed, but at some point in time you will have to turn on your former ally.

That being the case, care should be taken when intermingling forces, exchanging technologies, giving hexes, letting your ally "see" your empire via screenshots, etc.

ONLY ONE PERSON CAN WIN. NO SHARED VICTORIES.

If you don't like back stabbing and duplicity, don't join this game. If you can't shake hands and walk away from the "table" with a smile on your face, after a former ally has destroyed your empire, don't join this game. If you hold grudges, don't join this game.

But if you love "Diplomacy" style games, like making long term strategic goals, quietly giggle while convincing others to do your bidding...well then, Machiavelli, this one is for you.

Code of Conduct:
1) Don't disappear unexpectedly. If you lose interest in the game, surrender your forces. Don't ruin the game for the rest of us by quitting without notice.
2) Don't take it personally. Back stabbing, lying, and other nefarious actions will be the order of the day.
3) Complete your turn within 24 to 48 hours if at all possible. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, let us know.
4) Email the new file to the next player in line after your turn is done.
5) File naming format: AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD-XXX-YYY-ZZZ-### (Where AAA is the name of player one, BBB is player two, CCC is player three, etc., with ### increasing by one number at the end of each player's turn...001, 002, 003, etc.)
6) Make a "courtesy" post on this forum that you have passed the turn to the next player in line.

Settings:
Five or seven players (depending on interest).
World size X-Large (7 players) or Large (5 players).
Number of AI- equal to the number of players.
Normal world.
Map loop.
Shroud.
1 Town start.
Stone Age.
Costly research.
Use resources.
No roads.
Climate: Full Range
Fog of War
Hide realtime AI
PBEM Protection
Passwords (write it down!)

I will generate a random starting player order, so please PM me with your email. The order will be determined via the email dice server at dicemaster@nomic.net. You can see how the dice roller works at http://dice.nomic.net/email.html

Turn order will be...
AI-
Player 1
AI-
Player 2, etc.

Some players may be placed next to an AI- of the same "race", or close to a treasure trove of resources. Such random luck will occur. Deal with it. Stats are not hidden, so feel free to pound on the "highest nail".

PM me or post here if you want to join.

EDIT (8/28/11): To remove DropBox requirement and to specify file naming protocol.
EDIT (8/29/11): To add item #6 to the "Code of Conduct".

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/5/2011 4:27:23 AM)

Turn sent to Titan.

When I took my initial turn it did not ask me to set up a password. Anyone else have this issue?

Raver508 -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/5/2011 4:30:48 AM)

Yes I had the same issue.

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/5/2011 4:33:57 AM)

Was anyone asked to set up a password? Should we restart the game?

Jay Doubleyou -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/5/2011 1:28:23 PM)

I had the same.
It might be better to restart.

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/6/2011 2:53:01 AM)

I would have sworn that I checked "password protect".

Please vote:
1) Go with honor system and don't open someone else's turn.
2) Restart.

I vote for #1.

Keunert -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/6/2011 5:57:18 AM)

1 - mind you if you open another one's turn he will recognise it anyway because he will get the cheat message, opened for the second time.

Jay Doubleyou -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/6/2011 9:52:31 PM)

Ok fine with me to go on.

Edit: I received the wrong turn and didnt notice until i got the pbem book wipe message. This can happen due to playing without a password.
So i vote for restarting with passwords.

Spartan07 -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/6/2011 11:11:40 PM)

Turn 10 sent to Raven in meantime...

I think restart might be best option...

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/7/2011 3:03:02 PM)

So we have two votes FOR a restart, and two votes AGAINST a restart. Need the other three players to vote. Thanks.

Keunert -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/7/2011 4:47:41 PM)

lets continue.

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (9/7/2011 7:25:58 PM)

Unless the other three who haven't voted have other thoughts, we are going to go ahead and proceed with the game.

[:-] It is important that you only send your completed turn to the next person in line, not to everyone in the game.

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (12/12/2011 6:10:49 PM)

Keunert (Middle Kingdom) has to leave the game. I am currently looking for a replacement. I have one PM sent out.

Or, we could just have Keunert hit the "surrender" button, which would be in keeping with the idea of "last man standing".

I'd rather not have Keunert give his land/resources/units to another player.

What are your thoughts regarding how to proceed?

SailingGuy -> RE: Last Man Standing (12/12/2011 6:12:34 PM)

In reviewing the Code of Conduct (entry #1), it appears that the suggestion is to "surrender" the position.

Any thoughts?

Jay Doubleyou -> RE: Last Man Standing (12/12/2011 7:12:19 PM)

Surrender is fine with me, but without giving all his forces and cities to his ally/allies. That would greatly unbalance the game.
