AdmSpruance -> USN carrier groups auto downsize on 7/14/44 (10/31/2010 5:51:35 PM)

Hi... playing the most recent patch....2 day turns. Somewhere between 7/12-7/14/44 ALL of the USN CVs downsize their fighter and DB groups....the fighters downsize from 42 to 36 AC and the DBs downsize from 32 to 15 AC. My carrier force is now borked.

Isn't that because of arrival of FB squadrons to CVs? I think US CVs were supposed to get Corsair squadron later in war and thus other units downsize to make space for it.

Or maybe not, just checked my old Scen 1 save and in that F4U-1Ds are arriving in early 1945...

Did this happen while they were all at sea or in port?

It happened during the 7/12-7/13/44 turn while they were in a TF resting at a port.....ie they were not disbanded. Here is an example of one of my divebomber squadrons now:

can you attach a save?

And here is an example of one of my fighter squadrons. Notice how the extra AC are now in "reserve"...so they cant fly but they use up hangar space on the carrier.

It might be an error, but that is how the database shows them. If you use the editor and look at resize 3 you will see that the numbers reduce for those squadrons and many others. I think it may have to do with getting the additional VBF squadrons on those carriers at that time.

The VF re-size for July 44 should be changing to 42. The re-size, after that (Jan 45), is where it changes to 36.

This was a bug found during beta testing of the previous patch where the change code was searching for a date match, and was stopping on the date greater than or equal to the current date. However if it was greater than (stopped on the next change), it didn't go back to the previous change for that to take affect but applied the later change.

Was fixed in 1106g (last official patch).

michaelm...you were right. I upgraded to v.1066g but as soon as I downloaded the save you sent me all the carrier airgroups autodownsized again. My opponent and I upgraded to v.1066g and then went back 3 turns to 7/10/44 while the USN carriers were still at sea. We have made it back to 7/16/44, all of the carriers have returned to port and then departed and all of the carrier air groups are normal sized. Thanks again michaelm for looking at my save!

Cathartes...you were right about the carriers being at sea, the autodownsize in v.1066d seems to happen when the carriers return to port.
