Goolie -> Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 9:37:06 AM)

Hello,

I successfully paid for and downloaded the game, and installed it without error, using the serial code emailed to me.... however, one I try and run the game I get a message called ERROR CODE 18 along with an explination that my serial code may have problems!

I have tried to email support@matrixgames.com twice over the last 72 hours with no response and just wondered if anyone on here shares my frustration..?

RD_Oddball -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 6:57:55 PM)

I'll get somebody who can answer your question to have a look at this for you.  Sorry for the delay.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 9:04:36 PM)

Thanks Oddball....much appreciated! I just wanted something to play on my time off from work! Oh well, I still might get chance...don't start for another 12 hours....

Andrew Williams -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 9:19:34 PM)

Did you put in the serial code with the dashes?

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 9:23:17 PM)

Yes....copied and pasted from email.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/4/2009 9:31:22 PM)

The error appears when I try and run the game after installing. It accepts the serial code whilst installing.

greatpatton -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 10:50:56 AM)

I have the exact same problem!!! I raised a support call 5 days ago and I still not have an answer...

Greg Wilcox -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 2:24:07 PM)

That's a strange error message and not one of the standard ones what OS are you guys using?

greatpatton -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 4:04:24 PM)

Erik Rutins -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 5:23:31 PM)

Could you all post DxDiag files please?

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 6:02:04 PM)

Where is my DxDiag file...?

berndn -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 7:00:18 PM)

Just use the windows Start button on the left, down corner. In vista use the Start search field and type in dxdiag. Hit enter.
Dxdiag should start. Maybe it's a good idea to use the Save all information button and save the info to a txt file. You can upload this file.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 7:09:15 PM)

DxDiag as requested....

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 7:46:36 PM)

See example....

Sotamaris -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 9:50:35 PM)

* EDIT *

Using Vista Home Premium SP 1

Finally I could manage it this way:

1) Installation as Administrator in Win XP SP 2 mode.
2) Starting by shortcut using Win XP SP2 mode

Maybe this will help you too.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 10:07:17 PM)

I've also noticed that several copies of "ccnormanrez" (or similar) are running on task manager slowing my pc down.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/5/2009 10:16:41 PM)

Sotamaris...thanks for the advice but that didn't work either. I'm really starting to regret buying this game at all....

Erik Rutins -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/6/2009 12:42:06 AM)

Hi guys, we're working on this, never fear. This is some kind of issue with your systems interfering with the serial number system rather than the game itself, we just have to narrow down what could be causing it (OS settings, background software, etc.). I'll be meeting with Greg tomorrow to go over things and hopefully figure this out.

Regards,

- Erik

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/6/2009 7:03:59 PM)

Any progress....???

Greg Wilcox -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/6/2009 7:12:41 PM)

We are still working on it. I'm going to send you a PM in a sec to ask a couple of specific questions.

-Greg

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/12/2009 8:29:59 PM)

....still not working.

Shaun Wallace -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/16/2009 8:05:59 AM)

Hia Goolie,

What version of Vista are you using, I had the same error in testing for a while and have had it with various versions of CC, CoI, WaR and TlD.

It occured on Vista, both 32 and 64 bit (what I am using now) I went to the root CC directory, re-entered the serial, set the game to run in win XP SP 2 mode with admin privs and turned off visual effects. This seemed to do the trick. The serial change worked with WaR and the other changes fixed the other 2 versions. LMK how you get on and I will see what I can do mate.

Cheers - Shaun

RD_Oddball -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/16/2009 12:45:59 PM)

Thanks for the help Shaun.  I know this is being worked on by Greg and Steve too so it might be good to co-ordinate with them as well.

TwistedKev -> RE: Error Code 18 (5/20/2009 2:50:31 AM)

I am also having the same issue. I am using vista. game installed ok with serial number but gives error code 18 when I try to run it. At first I could not even get to the game menu. autorun would just hang then I turned off xp service pack 2 compatability and the game menu loads, but I get the error 18 message. My other matrix games work fine on this computer, WITP, Hired guns, Advance tactics. Thank you for looking into this. Kevin

whizbanggang -> RE: Error Code 18 (6/2/2009 3:42:45 AM)

Can anyone assist with the "Error 18"? I just purchased the game on 5/31/09 via digital download. Installation was successful but I am unable to launch the game. I get the "Error 18" message. Also as someone mentioned above several copies of "ccnormanrez" (or similar) are running on task manager slowing my pc down. I'm on Vista Home Basic 6.0 SP1. DxDiag is attached.

Please help, Matrix Games. Thanks.

Goolie -> RE: Error Code 18 (6/5/2009 2:06:13 PM)

Try launching the game whilst holding down "ctrl"..this launches the options menu. Disable videos to make it work.
I also find that running the game windowed makes it more stable.

whizbanggang -> RE: Error Code 18 (6/12/2009 2:35:34 AM)

I thought I'd post the resolution of my Error 18 issue for future forum reference...Until Intel updates their graphics card drivers, playing on my laptop is out of the question. The game works fine on my desktop, so no worries.

>>>>>
After some research we found that the problem is with your integrated video card. It does not fully support “Transform & Lighting”, (T&L) I have included a link to Intel’s support page and have also copy and pasted the information below. Unfortunately until Intel comes up with some new drivers to support T&L a lot of the newer games will not run properly. If you have another computer which does not use any of the video chipsets below your game will run without any issues. Please contact us again if you have any further questions.

Graphics
Support for Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L)

Only the IntelŽ G965 Express Chipset Family supports hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L)1. All other IntelŽ graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run.
1 Although the chipset hardware itself supports T&L, future graphics drivers will be required to utilize this feature.
