Hard to believe it's been over a year since an update. This game was my lifeblood for over a year, and I really want to do an update for it.
The good news is I had a massive OOB update for it. I mean massive. The downside is my PC crashed around June of last year, and all my backups were erased. The 1.3 was stored on my univeristy drive, but apparently it was deleted as well. I guess I figured I didn't need it (this was before my PC crashed). So all I had worked for was gone.
Thankfully, I had saved a comprehensive list of everything I had done. The art would still need to be redone, but the actual OOB could be done in a few months as the basic research is all pretty much there. Well 75% of it anyway. So the question is, would it be worth redoing at this point?
WPO is a great game, I think. But it is a niche game within a niche genre. Right now I'm doing an OOB for the AE expansion to WitP, and am the Producer for Carrier Force. So my time is very limited. But, WPO is still a great project for me, and if there is enough interest I could restart, in my off time, work on the patch.
Instead of vague "I did this" references, here is the changelog I had distributed to the testers (who have long since scattered to the wind). As I said it could be done, but not anytime soon (read summer at the earliest, even that is doubtful) as it would basically be a free upgrade done when I had time, in between a Full time job, AE, and CF. But if you guys would like it and there is enough interest, I suppose I can start pooling everything together and see what can be done.
I also am posting this to dispell those who had hoped to see 1.3 this year. I would like it to happen, but odds are it won't. At least not anytime soon. The chances are slim and none, respectively. But then WPO ever being a hit game when it started out as a two bit mod three and half years ago was slim as well.

New Machine gun Device types added. All nation's waships now have nation specific antiaircraft machine guns.
The transport ship system has been redone. Now further subdivided into different ship types (Steamer, Freighter, Transport, Troop Ship, Coastal Merchants, and Cargo Ships) and each with varying tonnages.
All Armed Merchant Cruiser type ships now can correctly carry cargo.
Two new classes of Armed Merchant Cruisers have been added. These are specific only to the British, and represent ships built in the 1920s historically converted to these roles during WWII.
Landing Craft have now been added for both the United States and Japan. This includes Japanese Daihatsu and Shohatsu and American Beetle Boat and Lighter type ships.
The Untied States Coast Guard has now been added to the game. While still reflecting the U.S.Navy nationality, they are represented by old destroyers given to the Coast Guard in the 1920s, as well as a host of cutters and patrol boats.
The Japanese have now been given the AB-Tei type armored boats for patrol in Chinese waters.
Sampans have been added to the game. They are small, short ranged, and can carry only a small cargo load. However, they are useful for running supplies to islands or in backwater areas.
Sampan patrol boats have been added to the game. These vessels are identical to sampans, but are used to spot submarines and report their position.
The number of American Sub Chasers and Eagle Boats has been greatly expanded. About one hundred arrive within the first year of the campaigns.
Japanese Divisions have been restructured according to historic downsizing in the 1920s. Effectively they have only three regiments versus the Allies' four, because each battalion was reduced by one company.
Japanese infantry squads are no longer as powerful as American and British squads, reflecting a lack of machine gun firepower at the squad level (M1918 BAR being used by the U.S., the .303cal Lewis Gun by the Commonwealth. Japanese doctrine called for Machine guns only at the Regimental Level.)
For a 1929 scenario, Akagi, Kaga, Lexington, and Saratoga have all been represented as historically completed as aircraft carriers.

Ship graphics have been redone in a new style, keeping the same feel but increasing graphic quality. NOTE: if the game is not run in deep color graphical glitches may occur. To run in deep color, add -deepColor to the end of the target line on the game's quickstart shortcut, so that it appears as "C:\Matrix Games\War Plan Orange\War Plan Orange.exe" -deepColor
