ASW on Base hexes? Docking Arghh

Post by ETF »

OK If I assign a ASW TF on its home base with "Patrol" why does it keep docking. Will it still perform ASW around the Habour etc while "docked" on my screen. I keep undocking them every turn. What can I do that is less micromanagement too keep them out looking for Subs. I understand to dock for fuel but it seems every night they have to hit the pubs!

You'll have to undock the tf and set it to Patrol do not retire i think.

The procedure is to give the ASW TF a destination of it's own base hex, set to Patrol/Do Not Retire and then undock it.

Works if you set the home-port of TF to another hex, but then the destination to own hex, with patrol-no-retire.

Right.[;)]
This is the same procedure that needs to be followed if sweeping mines also.
Set another port as the home base.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought subs cannot engage TFs at a base so why bother with ASW there? [&:]
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

A. if the base is under 3, subs can attack docked shipping
B. sub in base hex can attack TF in transit, either in or out
C. sub might be trying to place mines in base hex

I manage to do minesweeping keeping the same hex as home base, but setting to 'do not retire' and 'undock'.
They even refuel on their ownand get back to undocked. [:)]

I still wonder however if setting a different base as 'home' will generate better results.
Anybody on this?

Cheers
