What Women Want???

Post by Greyshaft »

I am happily married but my wife has no interest in wargames <uh... maybe I just contradicted myself?> She loved Diablo and didn't mind playing Dungeon Seige, but that's about as far as it went. So if there are any women out there who do play wargames I am REALLY interested in finding out what attracts you to the hobby. If I can understand that then maybe I have a better chance of persuading my wife to play something a bit more strategic. She's got a BA in Maths and works as a software tester so there's no problem in comprehension... its the motivation that's lacking.

ROFL[:D]....dude! Her chance of becoming interested in a wargame is about as likely as your sudden interest in having your nails done and picking a color of polish that won't contradict your eye color[;)]...really, some things are best left unchanged[:'(].

Simple, all you need is to take her back to childhood, give her an older brother who is a military history buff, drag her around to every Civil War battlefield in the nation every summer as a "vacation" and fill the house with military memorabilia, maps, toy soldiers, and military history books. Oh yea, and control the TV to watch every John Wayne war movie that gets shown.

At least, I think that's what went wrong with me. [:'(]

Well gentleman I am one of those luck few. My wife likes SPWAW and the CIV series(among a few other titles). She loves blasting those nasty commie tanks. This happened after we had been married for about 5 years. She was watching me play SPWAW and since her job requires her to be inquisitive, questions started. The next thing I knew she had the game on her computer. Guys I will not pretend she is as obsessed as we are, but my GOD am I lucky. Oddly enough she still does not like war movies. So divorce is still an option if she does not come around.[;)]

My ex used to love online RPGs. I think women go for the more social types of games; it is a rare bird that can appreciate the thrill of a crushing cavalry charge or armored assault.

My wife of 18 years leaves the gaming to me. --Which is just fine with me. Losing to someone that you live with can be hard to take.

the first PC games that got me hooked were SimCity and PGA golf, unfortunately the GFATT (girlfriend at that time) loved them as well, so we soon had to become a two PC household

there are other downsides to get the misses/partner/girlfriend into wargaming !
- she could beat you at your own games
- she could identify the equipment from the "Identify this..." competitions before you do
- she could find out how much you really spend on games

you are warned [:D]

AbsntMndedProf this is a jest. If I showed an interest in my wife's other activities I would be brain dead. She may like SPWAW and CIV but oh lord those craft fairs, decorating stores, gardening and long walks are on the debit side of our relationship. Of course she thinks I like those things.

Any woman who will not put up with us playing games during 90% of our free time is not a keeper. GOD, what's wrong with that.

My wife goes for console games. I'll be playing here at the comp and I can hear her playing some game in the livingroom saying "OH SHIT!!!" Too funny. She played this game called Animal Crossing for a year. Stay away from it, it's more addicitng then any game ive played in 20 years of comp gaming.
After 16 years, Civ II still has me in it's clutches LOL!!!
Now CIV IV has me in it's evil clutches!
