Troubles with 3D-battles when trying the demo

Post by Arralen »

Have some trouble running the demo on my machine at home (ran fine with an ATI 9200? card at work, though).

Only a small part of units in a battle actually show up in the 3D display, and those are drawn in a rectangle. I guess those drawn are those that are currently active (hitting or getting hit, or dead ..), but I'm not shure.

Here's my setup:
4-1500/Asrock P4i45E R3.0, BIOS1.70/512 MB DDR266
GeForce 5200 (128MB), BIOS 4.34.20.22, Detonator 6.14.10.6177, @1152x864x32bit
CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio, C-Media 5.12.1.639 16.07.2002
Win2K SP4, DirectX 9.0c
AMD FX-4300
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
Kingston 24GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)
Asus GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB GDDR5
Kingston SV300 120 GB
Windows 8.1

Have you checked if your drivers are up to date? The game runs at 1024x768 in 16 bit so it might be worth trying to set your desktop to that and see if it helps - unlikely but you never know!

Either Detonator 61.77, 67.03 or latest Omega does not make any difference:

At the start of battle, most of my own troops are displayed, sometimes a squad or so is missing. As the troops advance, most of them disappear.

Alt-tabbing out and in to save some screenshot corrupts the mouse pointer graphics, and sometimes the lower portion of the screen. Hitting a button "blindfolded" does restore it, though.

Arralen,
ORIGINAL: Arralen
Here's my setup:
4-1500/Asrock P4i45E R3.0, BIOS1.70/512 MB DDR266
GeForce 5200 (128MB), BIOS 4.34.20.22, Detonator 6.14.10.6177, @1152x864x32bit
CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio, C-Media 5.12.1.639 16.07.2002
Win2K SP4, DirectX 9.0c

Have to ask: Are you running anything overclocked and have you tried "vanilla" driver settings (basically the non-tweaked defaults)?

No, no overclocking, and yes, plain vanilla settings.
Actually, I prefer having a stable system to squeezing the last 0.1 fps from the machine ... . And with the standard Nvidia setup tool there aren't that many things to tweak anyway.

Ah - nearly forgot - a happy new year for anyone of you !

Tried to tweak the settings "downwards", but it doesn't make any difference.
Observed the effect more closely:
At the start, it's the farthest squad that regularly disappears, plus the Javelineer in the 2nd line. Scrolling/zooming in on that squad makes it appear (at least partly) again. The Javelineers do not appear no matter what I do.

Looks to me like the graphics card erroneously "thinks" the units are "masked" by something, e.g. another unit before it.

Any news on the issue?
I downloaded the demo again last weekend, but the error is still there. (not that surprising, as the .exe dates from 27.11.2004)

I really like the game, or at least that part that works. And judging from the tidbits I can see during battles, I would like them as well. But not being able to see what's going on simply sucks ...

Any hope for a fix, or this (another) game I can write off as interesting, but flawed ?

yours sincerly

It looks like this slipped through the net... sorry! I'll see if I can find out any more. You can always play the battles in 2D, even if 3D doesnt work. Many people prefer the look!

Sorry I dont check the Matrix forums that much so tend to forget whats happening over here! There is nothing we've found that would fix your problem. In situations where we cannot work out why it doesn't work in 3D, we just resort to 2D. Have you tried any other demos from us & do you have any problems with them? Maybe post your query to our forum or I might not remember to answer you!
