60 years ago today my great Uncle Bob was killed.

My great Uncle Bob was a rear gunner in a Halifax belonging to 466 Squadron RAAF (RAF Bomber Command). Unfortunately, while the whole crew got out safely, all but the Pilot Officer were murdered by angry civilian mobs. He is buried in a collective grave in the Rheinberg war cemetery near Wesel in Northern Germany.

His older brother David is 88 today. (Still alive , though his health is starting to fail.)

Great Uncle Bob and his generation were tough and courageous. We owe him and his like a great debt. It's good to see his brother has had a long innings.

Go Fatso. The Battlers' Prince. Er...that's the wombat for the uninitiated. It's a long and very Australian story.
