AP - a troop transport. One source lists it as an XAPV, whatever that was.

On the 7th of May 1942, it was hit by a B-17 and left burning, according the UV manual.

Then...
On the evening of 19 March 1943, [U.S. submarine]Whale sighted two large freighters and one torpedo boat or destroyer escort. Just after daylight the next morning, the submarine finally worked into a favorable attack position, fired spreads of three torpedoes at each freighter, and hit both. The first target, tentatively identified as Mogamigawa Maru, sank rapidly by the stern.

Guess that tentative ID was wrong because...
31 july 1943 Submarine Pogy (SS-266) sinks Japanese aircraft transport Mogamigawa Maru northwest of Truk, 11°08'N, 153°18'E.

Aren't all MARUs transport ships of some kind or another anyway?

Was that a haiku?
I guess you know from what you posted that gawa=kawa=river in Japanese. Do you speak any Japanese?

Hi, I spent 13 months in Okinanwa and Japan when I was in the USMC in 1974-75
It's a linked verse but it is Basho's not mine here is a variation.

Gathering all the rains
Of May,
The River Mogami rushes down
In one violent stream.

Gathering all the time
of July
The player Mogami sits down
and confuses himself greatly

Reminds me of the Haiku thread on UV.
Actually some of the Japanese officers were quite proficient poets.
IIRC the general in charge of the invasion of the PI, and the Bataan death march was quite versed in poetry. [8|]
