Aircraft and Aircraft Engines

Post by Xargun »

Just a quick reminder to those stupid enough to tackle the Japanese Economy right away - like myself [X(]

I believe all industry runs daily with the stated production EXCEPT Aircraft and Aircraft Engines. The size of the factories indicate their rough monthly output - so if you have 30 factories, you will produce 1-2 items a day at most. The manual shows a formula and talked about the concept, but don't forget - it doesn't matter much in the early game, but this is when you need to build up your stockpiles of aircraft to keep up with losses in 43 and on.

Careful there ... you need to stockpile aircraft that will still be in service in 43+, not *all* aircraft. [;)]

Right off the bat, turn #1:

A5M4 Claude -> A6M2 Zero (Nagasaki has 6, need to change)
E8N Dave -> E13A1 Jake (none in production)
G3M Nell -> G4M1 Betty (Gumma has 20, need to change)
Ki-15 Babs -> Ki36-II Dinah (none in production)
Ki-30 Ann -> Ki-51 Sonia (none in production)
Ki-32 Mary -> Ki-48 Lily (none in production)
Ki-59 Theresa -> Ki-54 Hickory (none in production)

Question for you guys

I count a total of 9 engine types able to produce, yet the aircraft only use 4 different engines. Why ?

I count a total of 9 engine types able to produce, yet the aircraft only use 4 different engines. Why ?

Look forward in time at the upgrade aircraft.

Mitsubishi 405 312 865
Nakajima 427 1149 360
Hitachi 93 0 120
Kawasaki 0 34 110
Ishikawajima 0 0 20
Mansyu 0 0 0
Aichi 0 98 20
Nissan 0 0 26
Kokusai 0 0 0
Toyoda 0 0 0

Columns will probably mess up but:

This is the engine type, current aircraft requirements, future requirements based on damaged factories, and current engine production rates just based on existing stuff and stuff being R&D'd right away.

I must have missed some engines then. I looked through the Aircraft Database and only counted 4 engines in use throughout it. I'll look again.

Well I looked through the database again and still only have 5. I see no reference to Ishikawajima or Nissan engines at all for any aircraft. Is this a mistake in the database ?

Hi all,

Ishikawajima only built Nakajima aircraft engines during the war; specifacally they built the Ha35.As far as i know was only used in the Mansyu K.K. factory in Manchuria which only built one aircraft for Japan, the Nate trainer.

Mike

edit: Oops! The Ha35 was also used in the early A6m's as the Sakae! Doh!

Nissan produced trucks & halftracks for the most part but they did produce the Ha-11 engine pre war. AFAIK this was not used in any production aircraft during the war.

In 1944 Nissan was told by the Japanese government to tool up for aircraft engine production again but they were never able to as they had a backlog of orders for trucks and prime movers.

Mansyu did not produce any engines in case i was unclear, i apologize!

Nippon Kokusai Koku K.K. did not produce any engines during the war. They were a state factory started to produce a German licensed trainer. That is all they built during the war. They did not have the technical skills there to build any advanced aircraft even if it was someone else's design.

Toyo-Kogyu (Toyoda, Toyota)
only produced trucks for the army during the war. They were considered to be of lower quality than Nissan trucks.

No. You're just getting a headstart on post-war motorcycle engine production. Just like UV was the test bed for WitP, WitP is the test bed for a global twentieth century war and economics game. Gary put these "apparently" anomolous engine types in there to test civilian production runs. When "Twentieth Century: Century of War" (TCCW) is released in 2008, you'll have to manage various production lines from refrigerators to wallpaper. Go ahead, Frag, now that I've spilled the beans, you can tell us how alpha testing is going. Bet those AARs will be a scream, huh?

As far as i know Ishikawajima build the NE-20 Jet-Engine for the kikka....
if this plane is in the database it should use this engine.

Is this seriously part of the game... engine production...????
Lordy! [&o] Can I change the population over to bamboo chop-sticks so I can build my wooden A/C sooner than later?

I assume this is a good reason for strategic bombing, and nothing is more fun than bombing things! [:D]

Now, let's see... can I hang these new jet engines under the wings of my Betty's... hmmm...

If you can drop bombs on ships, I'll buy it!

ok i figured out how to change the claudes and nells but how do you set up the ones not being produced???

I just list the "none in production" so you know you don't have to worry about changing factories over for those aircraft.

Both the 6 at Naga & the 20 at Gumma need to be changed over to something else if you want to shut down Nell & A5M4 production, the rest are already not being produced.
