4 player game possible??

Post by nnason »

Bill/Hubert.
Do you think the following will work to allow 2 axis and 2 Allied players??

In "Hot Seat Mode" Axis player 1 plays, saves the game, and emails saved file to Axis player 2. Axis player 2 plays, ends turn, and then sends saved file to Allied player 1. Allied player 1 plays, saves the game, and then sends saved file to Allied player 2 who plays, ends the turn, and then sends saved file to Axis player 1.
And rounds starts over.

Note I was able to make this work between a desktop and laptop with different keys but same accounts.

I believe so as I recall others mentioning doing this in the past.

Bill/Hubert,

We have started our first multiplayer WaW game.

We have a few issues:
1. Axis players first turn when he ends the turn he has to set the Allied players password. Not sure how to solve this other than having a disinterested party set the password on the first turn. This could be done by sending the save file to that person who would then set Allied password and then forward to the Allied side.
2. Passing save file between players was too big for email. Solved by zipping
3. Sending the wrong file so that all of the turn was not recorded. We have a workaround which is shown below
4. Keeping track of the game date of the autosave file. We have a workaround which is shown below.
5. Passing the game file between the players is cumbersome. My guess solving this on the server would involve lots of programming. It would be great is Matrix solved this as they could use their solution for all of their games.

Here is the draft method we are doing the turns and file passing now:

Axis player one unzips the file and places file into " Users\yourname\documents\my games\Strategic Command WWII – World at War\Multiplayer\hotseat"
Axis player one makes move and saves. Renames the saved file as follows from saved name to saved name plus 4play plus name plus date plus time. EXAMPLE "1939 - 09 - 15.save" to "1939 - 09 - 15 4play Noah 20190704 1830.sav" The advantage of placing a date time on every save is at least we will be able to keep track of the turn sequence and who saved.
Axis player zips file using Windows 10 and sends to Axis player 2 Axis player two unzips the file and places file into " Users\yourname\documents\my games\Strategic Command WWII – World at War\Multiplayer\hotseat"
Axis player two makes move and saves. Renames the saved file as follows from saved name to saved name plus 4play plus name plus date plus time.
Axis player two ends turn and makes decisions for the Axis (team can decide how to divvy up who does research.) Axis player two when the game asks for the Allied password ends the game by terminating SC3 program either by resting the computer or using "Windows 10 Task Manager."
Axis Player two then renames the "Autosave.sav to "Autosave plus date of most recent save plus 4play plus name plus date plus time. EXAMPLE "Autosave 1939 - 09 - 29 4play noah 20190704 2030"
Axis player two sends to Allied player 1 and the process is repeated.

Always assuming players are consulting with each other as needed.

Hi Noah

Thanks for the feedback, and on 1. If the Axis players hits Cancel when it wants to move to the Allied turn then this resolved it for me.

In the past when we used to play PBEM like this some of my opponents would rename the saves progressively, e.g. 1939WAW_Bill001,1939WAW_Bill002 etc

Maybe that will help.

Bill,
Your suggestion on pressing cancel and then using the Autosave file works. The opposite side team then gets to enter their password. And the first turn the Allies get to create their own password.
