Not news but an opinion. Looking at the FFG-X program I am convinced the winner will be the legend class derived patrol frigate. The independence derivative will be unable to mound hull sonar due to its water jets same as the independence class. The Alvaro de bazan class is too short range and already took expensive for the programs price cap so even removing aegis would put it too high over the price when the other changes are considered. FREMM is a potential candidates but simply put too big at 6700 tons. Only the legend class derivative is built in the us has the range required fits the size wanted and can be made for the right price

FFG(X) has no requirement for a hull sonar, the Independence derivative doesn't use water jets, there is no size requirement listed, and the range of the de Bazan is 4500nm at 18 knots compared to the Burke's range of 4400nm at 20 knots. The last Frigate concept HII displayed (PF 4921) had a range of 8000nm at around 10 knots, and had only a fraction of the sensors and weapons specced for FFG(X). The base NSC also already costs around $750m with its austere sensor and weapons fit - around $100m more than an LCS.

US: Hate all you like, this is freedom of navigation.
China: Hate all you like, this is freedom of navigation.
Japan: Nani?

Japan sighted CNS Liaoning is heading toward West-Pacific with its carrier aircrafts, possibly a drill. JNSDF is monitoring while JSDAF is ready to intercept:

EDIT: Japan MOD has released the PDF report. It’s a group rather than a lone carrier. Also note, all ships are belongs to Northern Sea Fleet, instead of mixed with other ships from different fleets:

1x Type 001 CV (Finished retrofit after Q1 2019)
1x Type 901 AOE
1x Type 052D DDG
1x Type 051C DDG
2x Type 054A FFG

Would/could China out bid the US for Diego Garcia?

https://asianmilitaryreview.com/2019/06 ... go-garcia/

"Robert Heinlein and Issac Asimov, were tasked by Admiral Ernest King to help invent the combat information center (CIC)."

https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedi ... r-was-1942

Found some vague references that this is true. Would be an interesting research project to flesh out the details.

Amid accused Iranian attack to oilers, China gives Iran a handshake for strengthening cooperations in the future. If that is true, then IRGC cannot have better opportunity to hike the oil price than yesterday:

Beijing is ready to join efforts with Tehran in promoting steady development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, President #XiJinping said on Friday when meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

I don't recall any direct mention of that by Robert Heinlein in any of his books. I do know that Heinlein, Isaac Asmiov and L. Sprague De Camp worked together at the
Philadelphia naval yard during WWII. I also know that Heinlein was a fellow classmate and shipmate of then Captain Laning who was an important player in the development
of the CIC so it would be possible that there was some influence.

Captain Laning credits E.E "Doc" Smith ( a friend and collaborator of Heinlein's) with providing the inspiration for the CIC the U.S. Navy would adopt. It is very possible that Heinlein linked the
two up.
In a June 11, 1947, letter[77] to Smith from John W. Campbell (the editor of Astounding, where much of the Lensman series was
originally published). In it, Campbell relayed Captain Cal Laning's[78] acknowledgment that he had used Smith's ideas for displaying the battlespace situation (called the "tank"
in the stories) in the design of the United States Navy's ships' Combat Information Centers. "The entire set-up was taken specifically, directly, and consciously from the Directrix.
In your story, you reached the situation the Navy was in—more communication channels than integration techniques to handle it. You proposed such an integrating technique and proved
how advantageous it could be. You, sir, were 100% right. As the Japanese Navy—not the hypothetical Boskonian fleet—learned at an appalling cost."

BTW, for those interested here is a link to U.S. Navy CIC manual dated 1945
You and the rest, you forgot the first rule of the fanatic: When you become obsessed with the enemy, you become the enemy.

The Baden-Würtemberg finally entered service after a delay of 4 years and several modifications.

https://www.ardmediathek.de/ard/player/ ... M4ZjE5MTE/

The Baden-Würtemberg is the first unit of the new F125-Klasse and is intended for long time operations far away from Germany. To achieve that the crew has been reduced to 120 men from 200-250 in precious classes. The ship is supposed to be able to stay on its station for up to two years without having to undergo extensive maintenance.

Finally a BVRAAM race for better range.

I doubt AIM-120D will be replaced though, it’s still superior to most of the BVRs including Chinese PL-12 (12D is still a rumor) so it can be used as a supplement for other targets. I think AIM-260 is more likely a bigger AAM like Phoenix, but usable for F-22 and F-35’s weapon bays. So I shall say it will be smaller than PL-XX that only to be used by AESA-equipped jets like J-16 and J-11D, like this behemoth below:

Yes, sadly database is missing most of the Iranian domesticaly built SAMs wchich entered service in last several years. I'm aware there is not a lot of info about them, but in recent months some things about naming and specification finally become clear. I will try to write DB request when I can post links.
